Dontaie Allen

#46 in his class isn't walking on anywhere

Ok so Kentucky offers Dontaie a walk-on spot, then what? You go and see minuscule playing time for about 2-3 years maybe a few minutes as a senior? He's competing for playing time against players all over the world. Go to Western, Northern, or Eastern and be a hometown hero where you can be an influence on the team, because it's not going to happen at Kentucky.

Walk-on? I agree, you should stop. I'm not a UK fan or have a dog in the fight but I would offer this opinion on DA. 1. He has had an tremendous summer and he's not walking on ANYWHERE 2. UK should offer this him because it would be nice to see some homegrown talent for a change. My opinion is that he is better than Hawkins was when he graduated high school and will have a far better upside than Willis after 4 years and this is taking nothing away from those to players but I'm only indicating this kid is worthy and DA is certainly not leaving after 1 year.

For any BBN naysayer that says "he's only a 3 star" or he's not "ranked" high enough, or whatever, which I've heard, I ask you this? What is that you want in your program? Do you want to win a NC or are you happy with winning a bunch of games during the season and maybe making it to the final four or are you content with being the premier NBA farm system. The 1 and done formula does work anymore when nearly EVERY year you losing ~75% of your production to the NBA. Nothing wrong with having a player stick around for 3-4 years to develop and more importantly give the program some leadership (long-term). Cal is a great coach but there is a reason that Villanova has won 2 or the last 3 National Championships, development and kids that stayed. Get 2 top players every year and fill the rest of your roster with kids like DA who will bleed blue and run through a brick wall for you.

That’s my view also Mr. Sixer

Not even a fan of UK but this is on point. I’d root for UK or UL if they had David Johnson, Dontaie and KyKy on the floor together.

Against Duke?

Against Duke?

Nope. But I would root for them to do well and I wouldn’t be disappointed if they won. I LOVE Quentin Snider and always rooted for the KY kids on UL roster to do good against Duke but I still wanted Duke to win those games. When they aren’t playing Duke I always root for them. Same rules would apply for those three if they played for UK.

This may be the best post on BGP I have ever read.

I may have to make a call to Roy. He’d look tremendous in A Carolina uniform.

The tarnished "Carolina Way" has nosedived too far for a classy young man like Dontae.

If Kentucky offers Allen a full scholarship and he goes there and plays significant minutes I will say I was wrong. How many scholarships has Calipari offered to a homegrown Kentucky player? Pretty sure he’s offered more people from other countries scholarships, than KY kids. He’s not going to get an offer “just because he’s from Kentucky giving a hometown kid a chance”. Calipari has never done that

You are right, this won't be why he gets an offer.

Here is one key thing to remember. In either 2020 or 2021 it is HIGHLY likely the one and done is going away. Duke and UK are going to have to start stacking some veterans to prepare or it will take 2-3 years to adjust on the fly. 2019 is the class you start that process...

He'll get an offer because he's earned it.
