The Minneapolis Lakers signed him after his senior year, and sold him mid-season to the Indianapolis Olympians. He played with the Olympians through 1953, and then was sold to the Philadelphia Warriors in '53/'54, and the Fort Wayne Pistons in '54/'55. He made the NBA All-Star game in 1952.

I’d forgotten about Coach Naber, who also coached Roger Tieman and Dick Maile from this list, during his stint as the Colonels head coach from 1954-1963. Naber players Maile and Dan Tieman would also go on to become Cov Cath head coaches.

 

Naber was Northern Kentucky’s leading scorer in the 1947/48 season, averaging 16.4 ppg. He also led Cov Cath to a runner-up finish in the 1947 9th Region tournament.

One way or another, pretty cool that two Northern Kentucky boys, Naber and Walther, wound up playing pro ball together for the Indianapolis Olympians during the 1952-1953 season.

Afton Kordenbrock '48 - EKU (Eastern State) in the first year of the OVC (1948/49).

 

The former Taylor Mill mayor captained the 1948 9th Region champions to the quarterfinals of the Sweet 16 that year. Kordenbrock garnered all-state honors under Coach Tom Ellis. Holmes finished the year with a 28-3 record

Only twins I can think of are the King brothers... but I can’t make the connection.

 

Tanner and Taylor Clos are 1st cousins twice removed from Billy Ray Lickert. Just some trivia, small world. But I sure was a fan of Lickert.

That's a pretty nice spread of players in a short time span.

 

And you can add James Quick D1 football and Taylor Epley D3 all american to the mix
