  2. Policy was to not talk playing time with parents. When a parent is on staff and then gets upset when discussion was made to “limit” their minutes and play other juniors and sophomores there was an issue. Same parent / assistant coach then went behind Stobaugh back and got him fired so that he could coach his sons in the future. Same parent / coach has pushed away a ton of players over the past 10 years to keep competition away from his sons. His sons never come out of the game. I used to be involved there and everyone knows what he is doing in that community (except I guess the administration). I am from shelby county and people see it too. South Oldham and OC love that he is coaching as players have left and gone to their schools. Justin Powell left to go to Trinity because of this same parent / coach. Last season North Oldham should have had on their roster : (2) 1,000 point scorers in Jalen Henry & Zach Wheeler, Justin Powell (D1 offers) , Trey Workman (transferred to another school and is getting recruited by low D1/D2), Jeffery MCLellan (Lou Magic), Jakson Wine (Louisville football player and was a top 25 player in his class in KY basketball when a freshman ), Kamron Masterman (Louisville baseball player now who was a stud basketball player too ), Jacob Vance (6’7 Murray state lineman now), & they had a player who started as a freshman at Waggener transfer there and “got cut” at North. There is a reason why this program hasn’t been flourished like it should have over the last decade. Last year team could have been a top 10 team in the state or better . I think the AD is his best friend growing up and that is why they have him. I saw on Instagram that south beat them again. I don’t think he has ever beaten south and OC in same year but his kids get to make the team and play.

  5. It will be interesting to see if HS football players join in the act of kneeling for the national anthem. While I think it was considered dis respectful in the past I do think that it now has transformed into a different gesture as of today. Today's athlete may indeed view this act as not being disrespectful to our country and the military that serves it but rather as a form of protest against current head of our country and his leadership. For some that choose to kneel it also is about race equality. History has shown us that traditions can change and take on different meanings. Will this potential change be about different silent protests from different points of views? Will be interesting to see how schools, administrators, coaches, and everyone involved in sport/life react if this spreads down to the college and then HS levels. If it does spread down to all levels of sport then it could be the most powerful movement displayed in my lifetime and would have to be the final say on POTUS Trumps term. Personally I am not sure how I feel about the actual act as I see strength and meaning in both actions to kneel or salute the flag traditionally.
  6. Stanley is a very good HS player but truth is there are definitely 15 better players in the state than him. There are 3 alone on trinity HS with major D1 offers (Scrug, Johnson, & Powell). Fern Creek has 3 (Wales, Price & Wycliffe) plus the others out in the state mentioned. Stanley is a nice player but probably more of a honorable mention all state type talent than a first or second team I would love to see him at a place like Bellarmine but he could be an awesome Transy/ Centre type player
  7. I watched a middle school player from North Oldham kick multiple touchbacks (usually after he scored the TD) and then also kick onsides (fast enough to recover his own onsides kicks). The opposing team never knew where the ball was going. Same kid would run the ball as running back and score 3-4 TD per game and return kicks on punts and kick offs. Most dominating all around football player I ever saw when I watched him play against Collins. He litterly recovered his own onside kick after 3 straight touchbacks and picked it up in full stride and ran 30 or so yards with it. Officials were shocked so they threw a flag after the play and figured it mist have been illegal but he grabbed the ball a good 12-15 yards downfield. Same kid is headed to Louisville as their kicker next year. I watched that kid play in MS and HS and saw another kicker at Shelby county kick too. Shelby county kid is headed to Georgetown and he was a better punter than the north Oldham player but couldn't kick the ball Off or FG kick as well. He also didn't play another position other than kicker. In HS a great place kicker is a huge difference. I'm still not sure that they are as important though as a middle linebacker who can cover run and pass plays or QB. I would put place kicker as 3rd or 4th most important spot for HS.
  8. Oldham county only looses 1 of theirs main players (Ismael Jones). The strength of their team was in their junior class South Oldham loses Griffin, Franklin, Hoover, and another key player but returns D Young & Morrison (he was just a freshman this year). They had a sophomore contribute a lot at end of season too this year North Oldham loses their top 3 players and returns 1-2 starters and another player who came off the bench as a junior or senior. Trimble loses players but will be about the same as always Shelby looses 2-3 starters Collins loses 2 big contributors but returns a lot of good young talent Anderson and Spencer will be good next year as they each lose some but return more than they lose.
  9. Jakson Wine (North Oldham): Louisville, Charlotte, Virginia, Illinois, Maryland, Marshall, Toledo, Iowa State,
  10. Owen Johnson (St Xavier): Morehead State, Southern Illinois, Elon
  11. Josh Edwards (Shelby County) : Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown KY , Morhead State
  12. This will be like 30 years in a row for St X winning state and I think it beaks a national record for any sport for most in a row. That is a true dynasty. Think UCLA mens basketball in late 60's & 70's or UConn women's basketball now and neither of those are close to what St X has accomplished.
  13. The real issue is that many colleges push for this signing ceremony. They want the social media hits (free advertising). I think it is comical when I see a HS player tweet out "blessed to have received an offer from Centre College". Well if that offer is a full acedmic ride that you earned then that is great. If you are trying to let everyone know that centre college is interested in you as a basketball player then congrats and that means that you are most likely a very good regional player in your area. A division 3 school isn't giving an academic scholarship so there really isn't an offer except that said school is recruiting you to come play for them. Division 3 talent is a higher level than many people realize but it isn't D1 at all. D3 schools and other schools encourage this ceremony though for the sake of the kids esteem and pride. They have worked hard to get that opportunity. It helps the college market their program too. I don't have a problem with it. Now the club team signing is another story..... ridiculous. There was a 3rd string QB at a private school in Louisville area a couple years ago. He rarely got on the field but he was able to find a fit/spot at an NAIA football program in Texas. He basically recruited them and they said he could play. People see through these things. They are sometimes fake in nature and the actual player deep down knows it. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter much at all. On the opposite end of the spectrum of a kid is headed to an IVY league school or one of the academies they aren't getting any athletic scholarship money. This doesn't mean that they aren't good enough or earned the right to sign a piece of paper. In fact I would argue that those kids have earned more than that right as they have the academics or the desire to fight for our country. Each situation is different and just like everything in life people see through the Fake stuff and know the reality. As a parent I would be miffed/upset of my daughter (or son) signed a legit athletic scholarship and then a teammate who doesn't really play goes through the same event to "sign" at a place that doesn't really warrant that attention/notoriety. It would make me or my child feel a little deflated. They accomplished something that only a small percentage of HS athletics get to accomplish. To share that moment with someone who didn't really accomplish the same would be tough. Down the road though everyone knows the truth and your child is actually competing at a high level and the other child isn't. That should be the satisfaction of a parent or player for their hard work. Kudos to the other child for getting a chance to sit on a club team bench or walk on a D2 program but it isn't the same as their teammate's accomplishment. Players and opposing coaches and most parents know the difference in an elite HS athlete and an athlete who is simply going to participate in a sport. One will compete and the other will participate.
  14. Generally speaking when someone has to continue to say how good a player or team is that means that they aren't as good as being stated. Cream rises to the top and in the end the better teams and players prove it on the court. AAU rankings, parental or coaching agendas, and message board built up doesn't make a player or team good. Either a player can play or he/she can't. Either a team is good or they aren't. If you go off of projections on the future then look no further than Eastern HS this year. The senior class there was by far the best freshman group in the state. Talent, potential, & expectations were for that team to win multiple 7th region titles and a state championship. This year they were .500 and maybe 1 game below and didn't get out of the district. Another example is North Oldham. Last season they were looking at returning 4 of 5 starters and their top 3 bench players. Things happened and only 2 starters returned and only one bench player. That group was dominate when younger. Oldham county current junior class has their best players that were not the best when 8th graders and freshman. The better players didn't develop or peaked and others improved. My point is that you can't count your eggs until they hatch (happen). Basketball is by far the hardest sport to project development. It is the sport that is a classic study for players developing early and hitting their peak. AAU has created this situation because players play a ton and develop a skill set that many times they max out earlier than they would have had they been HS players in the 80's or 90's an dnot played all the AAU games. The vast majority of NBA players and major college contributors are the players who developed later in HS. The young players at Spencer County may very well end up being as good as you always toute them as, but don't be shocked to see younger players that are their same age pass them up in talent in a few years. They will most likely still be good, solid players but the chances of them all being great regional or state players is against them percentage wise. There was an AAU team in Louisville area that finished as runner nationally when they were going into 7th grade. They had 8-9 of the top 12-20 players in the entire state of Kentucky on that team. Of that roster only David Sloan, Anthony Mathis, & Chance Moore are sure fire college basketball players. Chance wasn't even in the top 8 on that team at the time and rarely got meaningful minutes. Everyone knew he was going to blossom later but other players were much more skilled at that time on that team than him. Not trying to reign on your parade in being proud of Spencer County future. Truth is that any decent team that is having to play 8th graders and freshman at the varsity level is because they aren't a good team or program at that time. There have been Mr Basketballs in this state and many UK and UL players who didn't play varsity as 8th graders or freshman because they were at a school that had more Upperclassman talent than them at that time. If you are relaying on 8th graders and freshman to get out of a district and even be competitive in a regional then you are in trouble. The 8th region is not a very strong region team wise traditionally (look at their record in the sweet sixteen). I would guess they are just below the middle of the pack and at the top of the bottom 4 regions of the 16 statewide. Truth is that there are 8th graders and freshman playing frosh only or some limited JV at many 6th/7th/11th region school that are more likely as talented or more talented than any 8th or freshman player in the 8th region. Many of these players don't play AAU and aren't really known until they get to their junior season. Parents and players are shocked when a player "comes out of no where" and is suddenly good. In basketball it happens all the time. Best of luck to Spencer county in the future years. I hope they develop and are as good as you advertise them to be. I am just more realistic with the truth of what usually happens in athletics and basketball. Remember it isn't a race it is a marathon to the finish line is sports in MS to HS. Getting out ahead isn't usually the best way to win the end game.
  15. Added 60 pounds and 2-3 steps quicker if what I said. That would make him a much better athlete - which we would both agree on I imagine. My point was that at 6'10, a high ball IQ, & perimter skillls all he would need is the strength (hence 60 lbs) & 2-3 steps quicker and he would be a top player in this class nationally. I agree that he is a D2 player now but he could be a late bloomer once he stops growing so much and fills out. Key would be his quickness .... very slow now which prevents him from playing man v man at a higher level or beating a player off the bounce. Not sure if he would ever develop that ability even if he stopped growing.
  16. Ryan is 6'10 and a wing. He is a perimeter player who is an excellent passer and a good outside shooter. Lack of strength, quickness, & athletic ability is why he isn't a D1 prospect you have heard of. He has a ton of potential but very unique combination of size but guard skill set. If he can put on 60+ pounds and get 2-3 steps quicker he would be a professional prospect and the best prospect in the country possibly. That is obviously a big "if". He will be the best player no one has ever heard of in this senior class.
  17. Hands down in order: 1. Harris (starts for #1 team) 2. Quick, Wales, & Taylor (tie) 5. QB@ morehead state is from St X (Austin Gahafer) and has a chance to finish his NCAA career as top 3 all time passer with Andre Ware & Ty Detmer. NFL scouts have actually been watching him past couple of years because of his production.
  18. Jakson Wine & Bryce Webb are both from North Oldham (Class 4A district 4) with Josh Edwards (Shelby County also in same district).
  19. Looks like Hollifield is ranked behind Jakson Wine (#1) North Oldham , Lee Ramsey #2 (Bowling Green), & Owen Johnson #3 (St Xavier) in the state of Kentucky but is ranked as the #2 punter (behind Zach collins (St X ). He is ranked as the best "combo" kicker in Kentucky though Rank Name Avg. KO Dist Best KO Dist Avg. KO Hang Best KO Hang FG Acc 1 Jakson Wine 70.00 72.00 3.6975 3.87 90% 2 Lee Ramsey 62.75 65.00 3.795 3.85 80% 3 Owen Johnson 63.75 66.00 3.91 4.15 70% 4 Mitchell Hollifield 63.00 65.00 3.3075 3.46 100% 5 Chanse Lanham 64.75 68.00 3.55 3.60 80% 6 Landon White 63.00 67.00 3.4275 3.62 70% 7 Tanner Dawson 60.00 62.00 3.3125 3.58 80% 8 Adam Barry 58.50 63.00 3.3975 3.44 80% 9 Nicholas Brake 61.5 64.00 3.4125 3.72 60% 10 Luis Bravo 62.5 68.00 3.2375 3.26 60%
  20. Crazy thing is appears that the 3 best specialist are all in the same district (at least according to national rankings). Jakson Wine, Bryce Webb, & Josh Edwards. Wine & Webb attended a big camp at University of Illinois and the special teams coach there (former coach for NFL Texans, Rams, & others) said that the 2 of them are are the best combo of specialist for any HS in the country hands down. There was a story on Scout.com about them. Wine was MVP at the camp winning the FG competition going 24 for 24 as well as the KO competition. Webb placed second in Punt competition. Webb & Edwards are ranked #19 & #20 in the country as punters by Chris Sailor (he picks for the US Army All American game) and are rated as 4.5 star recruits as punters. (4.5 - 5 Star is D1) (4 star is D2) Wine is ranked #132 as as place kicker by Sailer and 4.5 star. Wine is also on Scout.com listed (no stars but only about 20 something kickers listed nationwide) Edwards is ranked #179 as a place kicker by Sailer and a 4 star. Edwards is also on Scout.com listed (no stars but only about 20 something kickers listed nationwide) Wine is ranked #1 in the country as a kick of specialist by pro kicker.com and the #6 kicker in the country by them as well Both Edwards and Webb have scholarship offers to punt from Morehead State and Lindsey Wilson Webb is receiving interest from Illinois, WKU, Austin Peay, & Purdue as a punter and has visited those according to his twitter. He also plays QB and threw for 1,200+ yards this year Edwards is also receiving interest from WKU and Charlotte as a kicker and punter but according to Sailor appears to be more of a punting prospect due to his height 6'6" Wine seems to be towards the top of UL list as a kicker and has visited them a few times. He has visited Illinois, Charlotte, & Virginia as well according to his twitter. He also has received interest from WKU as on his twitter he visited for jr day and spring game and their camp. Wine plays WR as well and had a game with 222 receiving yards with Webb at QB according to HUDL/MaxPreps Crazy that this district has these 3 kickers (all best kickers in the state this year according to national rankings) and also produced Creque from Collins as well as the other kicker from North Oldham who is at EKU now kicking (Peeggee) a couple years ago. Oldham County HS and North Oldham has good young kickers it seams too. All 3 are great prospects: I listed those 3 plus the kicker from John Hardin (couldn't find any national rankings for him) Josh Edwards:Josh Edwards - Hudl Jakson Wine: Jakson Wine - Hudl Bryce Webb: Bryce Webb - Hudl DeVonta Guillory: Devonta Guillory - Hudl KHSAA Stats from Max preps: Edwards: 8FG & 46 XP made (per KHSAA/ No Max prep stats) No punt stats listed Wine: 4 FG & 8XP, 6 TD (KHSAA) 27 KO w avg of 62.7 yards and long of 75 yards, 4 FG made w Long of 46 yards (MaxPreps) Webb: 4 TD (KHSAA) 27 punts with 40.6 yard average and a long of 62 yards (MaxPreps) D Guillory : 2 FG & 34 XP (KHSAA) (no max preps stats)
