Right, if you are CovCath you don't want to make the same mistakes they have made for the past couple of decades over-scheduling.

 

As a matter of fact, it was so bad for so long at CCH it makes me think there was a conflict of interest in the past.

Cov Cath is having a killer year. They have their ups and downs also. Two years ago we won a squeaker, last year we blew them out, this year they blew us out. Ryle will continue to play them. Other schools looking for competitive games to prepare them for the playoffs should play them. Padding your reguler season with almost guaranteed wins to look like studs and lose early in the playoffs every year is not the formula.

To answer your question, I do not think Cov Cath ever has trouble finding games in NKY, most expect Cov Cath to be Cov Cath and always put a quality product on the field. I feel like Beechwood and Lex Cath also agree with Haywood's method in scheduling quality teams in order to prepare for a deep run, so I do not think either will dodge Cov Cath in the future. In a densely populated area as NKY/Cinci, I cannot see CCHS ever struggling to fill out a schedule like Pikeville did this season. Would love to see a JCHS/Cov Cath regular season battle!

 

That potential matchup is a victim of geography. It's a 3:30 minute bus drive to Paintsville from Park Hills. CovCath can be in Louisville, Indianapolis, and Columbus in under in 2:00 hours. Not to mention the Cincinnati schools.

When I went to Beechwood we wanted to play CovCath bad, really bad, even though we lost in everything to them.

If this were to happen, Covington Catholic has plenty of options to play teams from Louisville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis.

 

CCH doesn’t want that problem, at least not yet.

Yep, the Raiders can play CCH on the Varsity but don't dare play them in Middle School Football.

Ask around how many public schools in Louisville want to play T or X. Sure, CovCath was down for a bit but they are a mismatch for most NKY teams like Beechwood, the defending small school champs just found out.

Their dominance is nowhere near that of Highlands in terms of talent gap and length of dominance. Beechwood is still playing them, so that should tell you something.

It would be much easier if Simon Kenton would just schedule CovCath.

 

And on teams moving up and down, the million dollar question will be what does Highlands do this off-season if their enrollment numbers dictate they are a 4A school.
