Your situation isn't going to happen but you can have refs and umpires at a scrimmage or preseason practice and they would likely be willing to talk to players, coaches, or parents.

I agree that this is a problem and that is likely getting worse. With that said, are there any schools, individual programs, or referee associations that are doing anything about it? Sadly, it not too far of a stretch to make this comparison, but something like getting police officers and the community to come together. Or something like the Bengals do with the ladies program and introductory classes by having something for fans to attend. Of course the ones who need it wouldn't show up but a Q&A for fans on some of the basics and most often misunderstood calls might help a little.

To the point, it's high school. These are very part time jobs for these guys and gals. They do their best. Some are better than others. I don't think what you have stated is any different than college or pro. There are stretches where there are more calls. Maybe they are trying to get control of the game or maybe it's just random or maybe the play is getting more aggressive--doesn't mean it's wrong. As far as the 2 official argument, I disagree. I wouldn't be totally opposed to it but they switched to three in tournament time and then decided that it should be the same during the season, so it's either needed all the time or it's not. I think that it is needed. The backside official sees a lot more than just 2 can see. There are always going to be eyes on the ball and under the basket with 2 or 3 and the calls are going to be made or missed. It's the backside of plays that is missed without the third official. I'd rather have 3.

Everyone is ripping the winning coach. Why not rip the losing coach? There are videos of them holding the ball and the "better" team sitting in a zone up 3-0. Apparently there were two possession each in the first half. Same thing as the Highlands-ND game several years ago. The only thing that I would question is that it was done in a regular season game. If you're going to break out this strategy, why not wait until the postseason?

First, I'm guessing the answer is no. Second, there's a difference between being physically better than a team and execution. If you're telling them all (starters, second team, third team) to run and press, that is NOT good coaching. Campbell could have won by 80 without running any offense but as a coach, that doesn't benefit me. Would Campbell bring in their freshman or 8th grade team to practice their press? No, because it doesn't help them get better. Same way that running and pressing a vastly inferior team does your team no good. Third, you are going to have to execute half court offense at some point. I wouldn't limit them to anything other than "you're going to run our half court sets." If it's getting too easy, you can say "run X but look for the low post option" that might be later in the offense. Improving your team everyday. THAT is your job as a coach. Is not that hard.

A few thoughts. I think the main problem with most people is winning by a large margin in a match-up like this. If it's Campbell beating another large school in NKY by 82, the thought is "what is wrong with _____(insert losing team)?" Second, has anyone who is supporting the run it up, press all you want, score all you can philosophy, ever been on a high school varsity coaching staff? It's easy to talk that way when you don't have to take any heat. Coach Menifee takes some heat for this and obviously doesn't care because this was an issue last year but there are very few that are like this. For what it's worth, I don't think it's going to hurt anyone's development or cause trama if they lose a game like this. I was on the receiving end of some of these growing up but the only time I remember being angry about it was when the other team was laughing and joking one time. The other times that I remember, it was just "man, they're really good." There are common sense ways to handle games like this without holding the ball or stalling or anything else obvious or ridiculous and everyone knows what they are. If you're actually a coach in this situation, it's wise to follow a few of them.

You may be right. Don't know the situation. I should have said, "he should not be coaching there next year." (again, if the previous story is true, which it appears to be)

You score 97 points because you want to. Plan and simple. There is a 0% chance Calvary wins this game. You gain nothing from pressing them because it's probably not as competitive as your practice. This game shouldn't be played. If Calvary offered to drop the game, then shame on Campbell for making them play it.

I think a lot of kids these days are specializing in one sport. I don't agree with it and don't know many coaches who are against their kids playing other sports. But with the new rules and being able to "practice" all year around, if you're not there working, someone else is and if it's your favorite sport, you're probably going to go.

I have not seen Cooper yet but now they are must see for me. Holding Neice to 2 and this team to 33 is pretty impressive.

Yeah, you're right. I probably wouldn't give the ball to the 6'11" D1 signee on the block on a 6'3" guy because he's pushing him a little bit. I mean, he probably hasn't seen that strategy all year long.

Agree, WV didn't use Miles well offensively or defensively. SK is running 2 guards to half court to trap the ball for over half the game so you're playing 4 on 3 below the volleyball line with a 6'8" guy and a 6'11" guy and SK has no size anywhere and you struggle ofensively most of the night. Miles should have scored 40.

It's great to see this tournament continue. I wish NKY still had the Fried Chicken Classic. Everyone has their own tournaments now but it would be nice to have one big one at NKU with the top 8 NKY teams and maybe going to 16 with 8 other teams from Cincinnati or the rest of KY. Everyone having their own tournaments kind of dilutes the fields of each.

I think it is more about fouling in general. The best thing that can happen on any possession is to get to the foul line. Also, it's not the 3 turning into 4. Assume that shot is missed. The difference between getting the rebound and sending them to the line is the difference between zero points and 1, 2 or 3 points.

Who is actually hurt by not going to a shot clock? You're going to say the players, but does it really? Is PC's Allen hurt if some small school decides to hold the ball against them one game in the season so he can't score 50? Is any team holding the ball against another REALLY keeping the coaches from preparing the kids for the next phase of life? Is this even a problem? I haven't seen a high number of 24-13 games this season. In fact, the only true stall ball game of the last decade in NKY on either side was the 13-8 regional game between ND and Highlands and that was the fault of the better team's head coach. In a state where you are going to keep the one-class system, this gives a chance for a small school to pull of the upset. Go to classes and I'm all for the shot clock.

This seems a little bit impressive. I have not seen PC yet and was under the impression that it was a one-man show. Could a short stint without Allen help them in the long run by having other guys HAVE TO step up and score?
