What's going on there? I can't believe their isn't any basketball talent among 1600 (is it more?) students. Are they playing other sports?

That’s the thing, there is some talent on this team. There is strength, size, some quickness, and some decent ball handling. They just cannot hit shots consecutively.

 

Also, I do not want anyone to jump to a conclusion that I am criticizing the coaching. I’ve only seen Ryle in person twice but it seems that they run decent stuff and are put in positions to score.

Its unthinkable that Ryle with 1800 kids should lose to a school of Bellevue's size (that isn't an "athletics" school). Not knocking Bellevue at all, the kids played their tails off, but Ryle should not lose to them.

You are correct. It has nothing to do with if the coach knows the game of basketball but the culture he brings. You have to believe in your kids before they will belief in you. They lack heart and desire at Ryle as a few other big schools who under perform in my eyes. There are many kids walking the halls at Ryle that can hoop that choose not to play. IMO Ryle is under performing.

So given your opinions then, you must support the idea of classification in basketball since a school of Bellevue's size should certainly never compete with a school of Ryle's size? Asking for a friend . . .

I support classification Ohio basketball is better imo. KHSAA should get rid of the private schools or classify. It’s all about money so I don’t see it happening. I hope the All “A” catches on at all levels and makes the KHSAA a mute organization. Just my feelings.

Come on Bulldog! Don't you know the Bellevue's, Ludlow's, Dayton's, etc should never even compete with the "big dogs?"

 

Not saying that's what was going on in this thread, but that may be my least favorite narrative in NKY sports. It shocks people that these small schools can have some outstanding ball players too.

 

Also, to answer your question below, yes, there should be classification, but never 6. Way too many.

All possible reasons, but definitely not the only possibilities. Culture has to come into the equation at some point. Cooper Scherr, Bryce Ashley, Jackson Saladin, Trayshawn Cody, Zach Rice, Anthony Caggiano, Gage Ashcraft, Braden Locke. Just a quick list of players listed chronologically that would have been probable starters. Hard to imagine that all of these kids have as you said "lack of heart, egos, or overzealous parents". Might want to research a little before you question the integrity and character of kids and parents when a pattern of behavior has unequivocally been established.

Ryle has the same problem Dixie has someone’s EGO is bigger than the team. Kids don’t play hard for EGOTISTICAL people. It’s the kids team not the coaches. Ryle coach just had a meeting with the kids and parents and cried the kids won’t listen to me that’s why we lose. People will follow great leaders they can’t coach as a king or by intimidation. Conner had the problem 2 years ago.
