I will take this further, if I was a 6A school I would try and schedule the 6A powers if they would play. I would not back away from Trinity, St X, Male, Manual, Scott Co., etc. I wouldn't schedule them all, but I would schedule 1 or 2 every year. I doubt Trinity would play many in state, though.

What does there under classesmen look like? It seems like they are very solid this year. What's the success of the middle school program?

They are very solid coming up through, but I feel this thread is a bit premature. Lets see what they look like next year without a D-1 three year starter at QB. They have a nice system, and have some momentum building but they are just 2 years away from breaking a long losing streak against their main rival and losing to a single A rival.

Who else should Cov Cath play in NKY aside from SK?? The vast majority of schools in NKY are smaller than Cov Cath and really wouldn't provide much of game. They already play Cooper and Ryle. That basically leaves SK, Campbell, Boone and Conner. Cov Cath almost has to look outside of NKY to play.

Cov Cath is having a killer year. They have their ups and downs also. Two years ago we won a squeaker, last year we blew them out, this year they blew us out. Ryle will continue to play them. Other schools looking for competitive games to prepare them for the playoffs should play them. Padding your reguler season with almost guaranteed wins to look like studs and lose early in the playoffs every year is not the formula.

Hope they keep winning but this is premature. It has happened in the past as SK was an annual beat down and they stopped playing at some point. Between out of state, good rivalries like Beechwood and Highlands and district games, there doesn't have to be many other NKY teams. Ryle is working well for both teams right now. Cooper on average should be a good test for both teams and is likely to continue. That's 2 6a and some good out of state lined up for awhile.

If CCH keeps it rolling, another issue is the larger NKY schools have not established consistency in fielding solid teams. I guess SK (debatable due to scheduling) and Ryle are consistent, but for the most part if CCH scheduled SK, Ryle, Conner, Campbell, Cooper chances are several of them aren't going to be very good on a given year.

Also are we not getting a little premature with this thread? They have an amazing team this year led by an all star QB.

 

Lets let them get a few years of success (meaning state championships) under the belt before we start crowning kings.

I can't argue with that, very unlikely to have a QB of that stature repeat every year. I know they have some good younger RB's, it will be interesting to see if the outstanding success stays consistent for the next 5, 10 or 15 years. And by success I mean championships.

The $8,500 tuition/year can deter some families from CovCath.

I don't want to make this thread about Simon Kenton, but I think the Neers would do just the opposite, they would run away from scheduling a stronger CCH team.

 

This I will guarantee you. If CCH wants to play SK and the schedule works SK will play them.

If this were to happen, Covington Catholic has plenty of options to play teams from Louisville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis.

I do not understand why anyone would schedule them in the first place. All you are doing is giving them access to everyone in your community to "entice" future student athletes to attend their school.

Especially Boone County School systems teams that have closed enrollment. Do not give me the, only restricting yourself or just limiting yourself because of your own policy line either. The football coaches have to deal with the hand they are dealt and they are not going to be able to change school board policy. So, why go to CCH what is the benefit for NKY teams?

What about NewCath, Holy Cross, and Bishop Brossart? If you are going to include independents, shouldn't Highlands, Holmes, Ludlow, Dayton, Bellevue, Lloyd, and Walton-Verona be on the do not play list as well?
