Cov Cath is having a killer year. They have their ups and downs also. Two years ago we won a squeaker, last year we blew them out, this year they blew us out. Ryle will continue to play them. Other schools looking for competitive games to prepare them for the playoffs should play them. Padding your reguler season with almost guaranteed wins to look like studs and lose early in the playoffs every year is not the formula.

 

To bring out the best football in NKY, Ryle, SK, Highlands, and Cov Cath should all play each other EVERY year.

I’d like to see CovCath schedule a game vs. an Eastern Kentucky power like Belfry, Johnson Central, etc. I know it’s far away but we’d all enjoy it I’m sure.

 

As long as they are not in the same classification this actually makes a ton of sense.

 

Belfry has shown they are not afraid to take on Private Schools or travel all the way to NKY for competition.

 

Johnson Central and CCH have enough history that it would certainly move the meter and people would want to see this game.

 

Belfry and JC both have struggled to fill their schedules in recent years.

I agree. Those three games should be cemented as a staple in those four's schedules. Good football, good following.

What about NewCath, Holy Cross, and Bishop Brossart? If you are going to include independents, shouldn't Highlands, Holmes, Ludlow, Dayton, Bellevue, Lloyd, and Walton-Verona be on the do not play list as well?

 

I mentioned the 2 schools that benefit the most from kids in Boone County. It is not really that hard to understand.

This I will guarantee you. If CCH wants to play SK and the schedule works SK will play them.

I am in the same line of thinking as @rjs4470 , other than maybe a rivalry game between Cov Cath and another NKY team why would they want to play teams they are going to blow out. It is not all that fun when your playmakers sit the bench for the second half of most games.

 

I've said it many times about scheduling. It's a two way street. How many NKY teams will Cov Cath want to play?? They don't have many now and it seems like they've always played teams from out of area outside of a few here and there like Beechwood and Ryle. Cov Cath has to want to play teams from NKY before those teams can say no to them.

 

Off the top of my head because you have JV and Frosh teams too and you don't want to travel more than you already have to. Additionally, there are a lot of other sports and the more local schools CCH can stay in good graces with the better.

 

I do agree on the larger point, if the CCH football program gets to a point where they consistently put running clocks on other schools before halftime CCH has to drop them and find better competition.

Maybe they could schedule Moeller or Elder at the Pit. (I have no clue how big those schools are or how good they are)

 

But if I was a NKY school and I knew I wouldn’t beat CovCath, I would not play them. There are much better options out there then getting smacked by CovCath.

 

I would probably stay away form Belfry and Johnson Central if I was in charge at CCH. Beating up on one dimensional teams probably isn't going to help prepare them for the 5A Championship race.

 

Sure, Moeller and Elder would love to play CCH but that would just be repeating the mistakes of the past. Just because CCH is better doesn't mean they can line up against Moeller, Elder, X, Trinity, and Cincy X every year.

It has been my experience that competitors want to see how they measure up against the best. The whole "we're not good enough so let's schedule down" mentality mystifies me.

 

To a point I agree.

If I am a 6A school serious about making a state run and most NKY 6A's should be serious about advancing far in the state, I would play them in a heart beat. You have to know where you stand to be as competitive as you can. I am not sure they would blow them out every year, they haven't yet every year.

 

I would not run from them and I don't think any 6A's in NKY would.

 

I agree, any school serious about competing in 6A from NKY should play CovCath every year no matter what. Right now Ryle and Simon Kenton qualify to play the Colonels, everyone else in NKY 6A needs to stay away.

Also are we not getting a little premature with this thread? They have an amazing team this year led by an all star QB.

 

Lets let them get a few years of success (meaning state championships) under the belt before we start crowning kings.
