How long will it be before no one in NKY will play CovCath in football?

Assuming Covington Catholic beats Campbell with ease, CCH's non-district NKY opponents will all have been mowed down in rather convincing fashion by the Colonels. That may not happen every year, but I believe it is going to happen more and more. And if it happens more and more, it is only a matter of time before no one, outside of maybe Ryle, will play CovCath in football.

 

So I will ask you again, how long will it be before no one in NKY will play CovCath in football?

 

I think someone started a thread just like this couple years ago about Covcath Basketball team winning the 9th region every year . Look how that turn out the past 2 years. I guess thats why you play the games you never know what can happen in sports

I think someone started a thread just like this couple years ago about Covcath Basketball team winning the 9th region every year . Look how that turn out the past 2 years. I guess thats why you play the games you never know what can happen in sports

 

Apples and Oranges.

 

In hoops you have 7 or 8 full-time players, in Football that number jumps to 25 plus.

I’d like to see CovCath schedule a game vs. an Eastern Kentucky power like Belfry, Johnson Central, etc. I know it’s far away but we’d all enjoy it I’m sure.

 

Maybe they could schedule Moeller or Elder at the Pit. (I have no clue how big those schools are or how good they are)

 

But if I was a NKY school and I knew I wouldn’t beat CovCath, I would not play them. There are much better options out there then getting smacked by CovCath.

 

Aside from the first 5 or so years that they had a football program (when coaches around NKY were refusing to schedule Cov Cath), our program has never been too big on traveling too far away from home for regular season games. I'm with you, in that I'd love to see Cov Cath play Belfry or Johnson Central in the regular season, but I don't see it happening when there is so much quality competition to be had in Greater Cincinnati, Lexington (1 hour away), Louisville (1-1/2 hours away), and Indianapolis (2 hours away). There are also a lot of talented programs spotted throughout the Dayton, OH and Columbus, OH areas. I think from a logistics standpoint, Cov Cath is just more likely to make one of those trips.

 

All that said, we did head over to Henderson County in 2014, which is about a 3-1/2 hour trip from Park Hills....so you never know.

No question, my memory is long, and I am well aware the Colonels' record vs Highlands is about 10 up and 100 down. Or so it feels.

 

I've seen so many 5-5 CovCath teams play, I'm going to enjoy this season and hope for the best next year and beyond. We are a long way from anyone mistaking us for Bowling Green, Highlands of the last 20 years, Trinity, St. Xavier, Male, or many, many others.

 

I'm also old enough to know that SK's record vs the Colonels is about 2 and 50 (rounding), and they (Neers) have been in no hurry to get back on the schedule. I'm happy that Simon Kenton has build a consistent 8+ win team in Independence, and with the housing boom out there it is no surprise, but you have a lot of CovCath pelts to stack before you start barking up the tree in Park Hills. :cool:

You know, this is exactly how I feel as a Cov Cath fan. (although a certain poster makes it real hard to enjoy anything positive about SK) :D

 

Most of the posts in these recent threads about the football success seem to be from non Cov Cath fans. I, like you, just want to slow down and enjoy the success that they are having, because you never know how long it will last. No need to puff out the chest, gloat or anything like that. No matter how many things point towards long term success, you never know. Hope it lasts for a long time, but regardless I will enjoy it while I can!

Since I'm looking at the school record book, the Simon Kenton/Cov Cath series has an overall 21-2 record in Cov Cath's favor. The two teams played last in 2004. SK's current head coach took over the program in 2000 and has scheduled Cov Cath twice...2003 and 2004. The Colonels won both games, 62-7 and 38-0, respectively.

Way back when, the traditional opener for CCH was Boone which always pitted two perennial state powers. I really hope this three year run of CCH and Ryle kicking off the season continues for a long time. It is always a physical opening game between two schools with a lot of respect for each other.

Must have been a slow day on bgp. A few folks are coming to some amazing conclusions. Win a few consecutive state championships and get back to us in 2020 with a thread title like this!

I do too. I said last year that this was a tough opening game and I was concerned with the experience CCH had coming back. Knew you guys were going to be tough. We were not ready. Be a better game if we could play now but no do-overs. Took our lumps and learned about us. We are a better team for the loss. You guys have a good shot at a really nice run this year.
