I think in response to this thread, CovCath should enter the field next year dancing like in "Remember the Titans".

I'm hearing there have been a few feathers ruffled at Beechwood the last couple of years because of the way that Eviston has had Covington Catholic do 95% of their warming up at CCH rather than Beechwood. Then they show up on the busses just before the game, run a few short minutes of team drill and go straight to the coin toss.

 

The complaint I actually heard issued was "It's gives off an air of arrogance, kind of like, we're only going to roll in here for the game, then we're going to beat you and leave like it doesn't even matter."

 

Is this a legitimate gripe among any of the Beechwood faction?

I'm an outsider looking in and I don't understand the concept of this "rivalry" and why people get so upset over it.

I didn't feel like it was, but the group of 6 Beechwood parents and alumni I was speaking to sure were unhappy about it. Apparently this has taken place two years in a row now?

 

As a graduate, former player, and former coach at Beechwood, cry me a river Beechwood parents and alumni.

 

The arrogance I find at Beechwood sometimes amazes me. Heck, just a couple years ago there was a grass roots effort to run Coach Rash out of Fort Mitchell.

 

The bottom line is if you don't like something a school is doing, don't play them.

 

It is only a matter of time before Beechwood taps out in this series and rightly so.

Not a clue. I'm fairly positive Cov Cath pays Park Hills PD for their police presence at home games.

First off...your enrollment numbers are significantly off. Cov Cath (595) has about 2-1/2 times the male enrollment that Beechwood (226) does in grades 9-12. You can verify that here.

 

But you're right, a 5A school should beat a 1A school every time, yes. You're also right that as an outsider, you don't understand the concept. I grew up in Fort Mitchell as a third generation Cov Cath fan. The block I grew up on had 14 houses...at least 7 of those houses had kids who went to Beechwood, and only 3 had kids who attended Covington Catholic. Several of my best friends, dating back to single digit years, went to Beechwood and played football there. One kid in my neighborhood played center at Cov Cath a couple of years ahead of me, and his younger brother was the starting running back for Beechwood a couple of years after me.

 

These two communities are so closely inter-twined...but even with the disparity in wins in recent years, the rivalry aspect is there for many of us. I can understand how that's not visible to outsiders, but it's there. What's unfortunate is the fact that with Cov Cath's ability to increase in size and enrollment, and Beechwood's limitations in being able to do the same, it means Cov Cath is simply pulling away.

 

I thought it was very telling when I saw several Beechwood fans at the game on Friday wearing red shirts with the Beechwood and Cov Cath logos and text that read "It's THE game." I looked around to see if there was a royal blue version of the same shirt, and was not surprised to see that there was no counterpart.

Smart on CovCath's part. Absolutely stupid for BW "helicopter" parents to be upset. Probably a little embarrassing for the rest of the BW faithful that don't display that kind of arrogance. Get real and take the smackdown like a vanguished, but all-in great fighter.

If I were Beechwood I would be more concerned about how CCH warmed up rather than where. Cov Cath was definitely more ready to play Friday night.

Doesn't McCracken Co warm up in their indoor facility and then just run out for the coin flip when at home?

 

I was at McCracken on Saturday. Got there about twenty minutes before game time. Come to think about it they weren't outside warming up at any time I was there.

Society we live in these days, everyone always has to have something to complain about. Worked so good for CCH, perhaps Beechwood should give it a try next year.

I think THIS is the problem. If they won, would it be an issue?

They did this very thing two years ago in the playoffs versus Highlands and we all know how that turned out. There was discussion of this tactic back then and what would happen if they were to get stuck in traffic or even in an accident. How, when and where they warmup should not mean much to anyone IMO except for the coach and his players.

 

Eviston did not coach them then.
