Asheville, NC

The wife and I are headed to Asheville this weekend for a little getaway. Besides Biltmore, what else should we try to check out? We are staying at the Omni at Grove Park.

If you like craft beer, there are a ton of options and several breweries. I spent a night in Asheville several years ago. It was before I was into craft beer, but we did tour Biltmore which we all really enjoyed. Neat town. I have been wanting to go back for awhile but the wife usually gets her choice to vacation on a beach.

If the Tourists are in town, take in a game at McCormick Field.

Walk around downtown. Friday night in Asheville is a happening scene. Music, beer, good eats.

Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway over to Mt. Mitchell.

River Arts area.

Omni at Grove Park is nice.:thumb:

Make sure you play their Golf Course, it has been ranked in the Top 100 in the world at various times, was designed by Donald Ross, and is fantastic. Their greens are hilariously undulating, especially as you get nearer the Inn on the hill. It is a blast to play.

Back in the 30's or 40's? I can't imagine it sniffing top 100 status anywhere close to the past 40-50 years. That's not to say it's not a nice course, I have played it and it is very nice and would like to play it again since it was early on when I first picked up golf that I played it.

Take the hop on, hop off trolley. It has a stop at Grove Park Inn. It has 8-10 stops with the driver giving info about Asheville as you go. We got off at 5-6 stops, hung around for the time we liked or wanted and did the loop. It took all day, but was a pretty comprehensive way to see a lot of stuff. It was relatively cheap.

Thanks for all the info! We are looking forward to it.

I expect a full report. The Mrs. is heading down with a few other folks. I declined!

The Biltmore is fantastic.

My cousin got married there also, its a beautiful town. Lots of hipsters, Hacky Sack players hanging around downtown. The craft beer is very good, lots of good eats.

Brunch at Biscuit Head. Thank me later...

I second that. Biscuit Head is a must!! Great beer scene. Hopefully you are in to that. New Belgium brewery is amazing. Fun tour guides and food trucks around. That is my wife and I's Spring Break destination most years.
