June 13, 20179 yr "Parts One and Two" tonight at 8:00 and 10:00 PM EDT. "Part Three" tomorrow at 8:00 PM EDT. Celtics/Lakers: Best of Enemies - ESPN Films: 30 for 30 Been looking forward to this for weeks. Will have to curate my DVR carefully for these. Certainly the greatest rivalry in NBA history. Adding fuel to the debate of the greatest NBA team ever? Looking forward to the discussion. 5...4...3...2...1...(Horn). Edited June 13, 20179 yr by Runcible Owl
June 14, 20179 yr Watched the first hour of episode one (kids and early bed time). I thought it was well done. Seeing Jerry West still on the verge of tears and hearing the anguish in his voice proves how rewarding and disheartening sports can be to an individual. Love the old footage. A few questions I have are: 1) Do you think that tying in the Civil Rights with the sports was necessary for this documentary? I thought it was tied in, in a good way. All white team picks up black player and goes full dynasty. 2) Was it necessary for Donnie Whalberg and Ice Cube to speak like they've never heard proper English? I know what ESPN was going for, but how hard is it to say done instead of did? 3) keep in mind I've only watched one out 5 hours. Is Boston really that racist of a City/area? Seems they were painted in the same color as say a Jim Crow Mississippi or Alabama. Edited June 14, 20179 yr by Jackie Ed Mistype

I can remember news stories about the bussing issues. My guess is , like many stereotypes, it's overblown but it's not without any merit.
June 14, 20179 yr I learned that ML Carr was the king of trash talk. That sort of thing is common in most sports but Carr took it to another level.
June 14, 20179 yr I got about 20 minutes of par 2 last night. Pretty cool stuff from the limited amount I saw.
June 14, 20179 yr I've watched 45 minutes so far. My favorite line of the show so far is when Bird said this is where flopping started
June 14, 20179 yr Before reading this, I thought to myself that it would have been better without the Wallburg and Ice Cube narration. With every 30 for 30, someone emerges where I think "that dude is really cool ... didn't know much about him." Cornbread Maxwell was that guy.
June 14, 20179 yr I've been a Magic fan since I saw him in person as a freshman in the 1978 Midwest Regional at UD Arena. I was that guy, who grew up a Celtics fan, but "had to choose" in the early '80s, and went with the Lakers because of Magic. As great as he was, I had forgotten those brutal possessions in '84 .... selective memory, I guess. Painful. If that occurred in this era, he would have been crucified.
June 16, 20179 yr It's obvious Jerry West is still bitter about all of the losses. The victory over NYK didn't satisfy him which is a shame. It seems like everything Jerry touches turns to gold and he's touched a bunch but he couldn't solve the Celts. Those teams were so fun to watch, I think I'm going to watch some Kevin McHale highlights right about now.
June 16, 20179 yr I wasn't a fan of either, Dr J and the 76ers were my team...so I hated Boston with everything in me. I only rooted for the Lakers because they were playing the Celtics. This is a very enjoyable 30 for 30. Bird and Magic, IMO did save the NBA.
