"Celtics / Lakers: Best of Enemies" ESPN 30 for 30, June 13-14

Featured Replies

I watched this with my teenage son and all I kept thinking was this was the NBA that I knew and loved, where you still had individual stars but they played team basketball. My son's NBA is anything but that and I feel sorry for him.

To me, Lakers/Celtics in the 80's was the high point of my NBA watching career.

I do enjoy hearing Johnny Most lose his mind.

Interesting observation....I have only had a chance to see the first three hours, but in all the footage they have shown (and there was a lot), not once did they show a 3-pointer fly.

The game is totally different today.

I do know that in the 1983 Finals the 76ers shot 2 three pointers and missed both.

I understand what you are saying but there was footage of Bird hitting some 3s.

I forgot how well Cornbread played for the Cs.

I haven't seen all of this 30/30 production yet but I remember a clip of him losing his mind (and voice) over what he considered a cheap shot by Ralph Sampson in a game against one of the Celtic's players.

The one thing this proved is that I missed was the physical play of the 80s and 90s. Which contradicts the fact I like the wide open offenses of todays game. But I feel like there is a better balance to be had than we have now.

I also don't agree with an earlier point about team basketball lacking today. The only top NBA team that played primarily ISO ball was the Cavs this year. The champions in Golden State were one of the best examples of team ball in history. Teams like the Spurs, Rockets, Celts and Wiz were all good examples of team oriented offenses.
