You hit the Powerball...then what?

Featured Replies

Let's say one of you were to hit the Powerball tonight, $435,000,000 or Cash Option of $273,000,000 so you'd clear about $150,000,000 after taxes. How would you proceed and by that I mean how would you handle it?

I'd set aside a portion for each child, a portion to help out family, a good chunk for charitable causes and a family trust to ensure security for kids and grand kids and great grand kids. Family security would be my number one goal.

A couple of splurges

-vacation home on a beach for my wife

-some 70's Ford pickups and at least one new one

-spending spree of Wilson Combat entire catalog

-turf for SHS football field

-everything the SHS band has on their wish list and some things they haven't even thought of yet :lol2:

-college fund for every child of every cousin of my wife and I

I'd love to have a huge farm with my own private lake of several acres stocked with bass and crappie, ideal situation the farm would be big enough for three houses out of site from each other, with my children and grand children living nearby.

So how would you handle the Powerball Winnings?

Attend more yard sales.

Attend more yard sales.

Except you'd be buying the entire yard then :lol2:

I would buy Simon Kenton a new score board for the football field, add on to their field house and help them build more class rooms.

PREPS

Every high school and middle school in Hardin (where most of my famiily is and LaRue (my brother works there and my mother lived there way back when) would now have turf. Every track would be resurfaced. New tennis courts for everyone (LaRue and John would get more, E'town would FINALLY have them on campus). New scoreboards for all outdoor sports.

I'd donate $20,000 ($10K per gender) to all 18 schools in the 5th Region to start separate lacrosse programs. $10K per each school for field hockey as well.

LOCALLY

- All fields at the Elizabethtown Sports Park, Carroll Soccer Complex and Nicholas Street Soccer Complex would now be turfed

- EABC (youth baseball), Gates (softball) and Ring Road (slow-pitch softball) would now be turfed

- Donate enough money to finish completion of Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame in downtown Elizabethtown

- For Freeman Lake (major Park in area), resurface all parking lots (and add parking), add lights, add sidewalks (so you do NOT have to run/walk in the driving portion), add bike lanes, add an amphitheatre (we have a stage, no seating), add bathrooms at all pavilions (only one pavilion does), add WIFI throughout park, clear Ring Road side and add white-sand beach for summer lounging, donate paddleboards, kayaks and canoes

PERSONALLY

- Pay off all immediate family's medical, car and home debts

- Buy vacation rental property in smokies (cabin) and PCB (beach-side condo, preferably at Edgewater)

- Build a pool/jacuzzi/firepit conmbo in back yard

- Since I'm a type-I diabetic, I would have Lasik surgery (because diabetics' eyes get bad), Liposuction (fat around stomach can cause future problems) and get my teeth capped (almost every one is chipped because I grind my teeth and have an enamel issue)

First thing I'd do is to hire a lawyer to get me out of jail. I'd have one heck of a celebration.

Trust fund for the family. Often debated if I would pay off the relatives debt or give each one the same lump sum.

There would be an athletic club formed (TAC) to support kids that couldn't afford to participate in events. It would pay for hoopsters and baseballers, but not soccer.

I'd upgrade my home and I'd have a dwelling in serval resort areas. I'd throw a little cash towards a couple schools and churches as well.

I'd make calls to Getslow and Watusi. In that order.

I'd do some donations and help for my community. My county is in the top 5 poorest counties in the nation. It would be nice to have recreational facilities and things for the county residents to do, young and old.

I'd also help my closest relatives with medical bills and debt.

I'd pay for building the back 9 (which has been surveyed and designed since the front 9 opened in 2007) at Sag Hollow Golf Club.

I'd tour the world and see many places that I've always wanted to see.

With that kind of money the options are many.

A free year on BGP to everyone...

Put teh ticket in a safe deposit box.

I would vet, lawyers, tax experts, financial gurus. I would select a team and then begin to determine what I do.

I would have priorities, but how it would be done would be carefully planned.

I haven't planned it all out far in advance, but if we're talking about the absolute first thing, it would be to hire my buddy Chevy as bodyguard/defender of the empire. Then we'd go have a nice BBQ.

After that, I hire a team to figure out how best to decrease my tax liability, and after that comes exploration of business opportunities. I could see myself investing heavily in the bourbon industry in some fashion.

I'd also finally have a better record collection than @ADopted ADmiral too.

My wife says that the ticket was sold in California.

First thing I do is MOVE TO FLORIDA OR TEXAS!
