If fly a decent amount for work. Two of my last three flights have had big dogs on it. The last flight was a family.

 

I'm not a frequent flyer by any stretch (like I said 6-8 times/year). I'm also flying more business than vacation routes/times, so that might explain why I have never flown with a dog on board.

I average about 1.5 flights per week. It's now part of my life. It wasn't 2-3 years ago. Airports now have to have doggie poo areas. Someone pays for that.

 

Those I have seen. Again, just reciting my experience, which I admit is much more limited than yours.

I didn't read this whole thread but it is easily answered, because our state is way way too lax on who they give handicapped access to.

 

Go to Florida, it is extremely difficult to get handicapped access there because if Florida gave it to anyone beyond those that absolutely need it, they would be completely overwhelmed.

I'll take another angle with this. There are some stores like Meijer that have dozens of handicap parking spaces right in front of the store, yet I rarely see any cars parked in those spots. Maybe I go there at the wrong times but I always have to walk 1/4 mile just to get to the store because (in my opinion) there are too darned many handicap spots.

 

Don't get me wrong; I am all for handicap spots but I've never seen even half of those spots filled whenever I've visited there. It's kind of like going to Wal-Mart and seeing 50 check out lines when only 5 are in use. Overkill.

If you have a relative (or anyone of that ilk) who needs it, and you are without them, God help me, it gouges my very soul to see you park in those spots and prance like a sprite up to the front door. I'd like to pass a law that if you're caught in that situation you'd be cited. And if you got 2, you lose your privileges. Friggin' rakes me. Lazy bastards.

My 89 year old dad has one for general mobility as he uses a cane or a walker. He no longer drives. When one of takes him out, we take his tag so that we can park in the handicapped spot. That's the only time it is used.

I believe people issued a handicap license plate have the driver's license number on the registration for the plate. It is a $250 fine and minimum of a night in jail for using a handicap hang tag or attempting to park a vehicle with a handicap license plate without the person the tag was issued to in the vehicle. While I rarely see tags checked in business parking lots, they are checked when attempting to enter handicap parking at Raymond James Stadium. I know this because Mrs. S has been issued one and we occasionally park in RJS handicap parking.

That is exactly what they are for, and exactly how they should be used.

 

They have a purpose, and any one who needs one, should use one.

Chatting tonight with a young lady, who is a dog owner , who was using an apartment broker to find a new room out of town. She finds a place and the broker tells this lovely perfectly healthy young lady to pay $85 dollars for a permit that says she has an "emotional support" dog and it will save her 50 bucks a month rent and she won't have to pay a pet deposit. College kid jumped on it to save the cash.

Total bull crap.

"It kind of breaks my heart because of the fact that there are so many people that are being like, 'Oh my gosh I went through the same thing' or like have messaged me on Facebook and said, 'I went through this,' and they share their story with me,” Baskin said. “That's why I want this to get out there to make people aware that just because you can't see something, doesn't mean people aren't going through it."

I agree it is abused alot. I see people driving a relatives or friends cars, parking in handicap spaces because that car has the sticker or plate. Makes me sick.
