I get where people are coming from. My point falls more in with people using handicapped stickers without diagnosis, or taking advantage of the ease to access. Everyone has given their examples, but I am telling you that his happens much more than you think and than it should. That is the point. It affects all of your loved ones who truly need them. Again, just go to a Walmart or a Kroger and you will see

Go to Kroger in Newport on a busy day, you'll see what I mean. It frustrates me.

 

I avoid that Kroger at all costs. Enjoy mine in Highland Heights much more. Little less selection but much better for me.

@mexitucky I'm going to throw another one out at you I find just as frustrating. People using service dogs. I see so many at the airports now it is ridiculous. While many have the need for one, most appear to be normal folks who went on line and bought a service vest for their dog and off they go. Free flights for the pooch!

 

I personally know people who do that. It is so easy to get a dog registered that they do it for exactly that. Another reason is to take them to public beaches. I can't stand that at all.

I said it was frustrating. Less room for my bags on a flight. And I've had the pleasure of a barking dog near me on a flight one time.

What? Look at 99% of the threads on here. None of it affects my life negatively or positively. That's not a prerequisite. This bothers me b/c the same people that are taking advantage of this, take advantage of other programs designed to help people in a classification that truly need help. So, in that way, it puts a damper on my day, b/c I dislike people who lie.

Just don't understand why you "can't stand something at all" if it doesn't have an affect on you.

 

And when did you become the judge and jury on whose actually abusing it vs. whose needing it? Just because you know people who abuse it, doesn't give you the right to sit there and judge others when you don't know anything about them and/or what they're dealing with and why they have the sticker or dog.

I had a temporary handicap tag a couple of years ago after my hip replacement surgery. I THINK I might have used it a couple of times, if I used it at all and frankly I don't remember using it to be quite honest. I just didn't want to use it unless I just absolutely had to, and I was completely back on my feet and in no need of the tag before it expired.

 

Whats my point? There are those that need the tag and depend on it, and of those I'm quite sure there are many who wish they didn't have to have it and would rather not use it if they didn't absolutely need to. On the flip side of that there are those who abuse the system, don't need the tag and have no shame at all in using it and think they are so smart in pulling the scam off. To those people, I'd love to line them up and spray then down with a huge super soaker water gun filled with vinegar and pee.

 

I, like mexitucky sometimes see people using the handicap tags/spaces, don't see any obvious reason for having to (and as stated above, the reason isn't always obvious), and wonder. It's unfortunate I do that, but it's only because of the scuz who abuse the system and put the thought in my head that I do it.

I get it. But I think if anything, with all the examples given, it shows that a good many of the people who have the stickers, actually do need them, regardless of "appearances". Obviously there are always going to be people who job the system. But I still believe those are the exception rather than the rule. And I'd rather err on the side by giving someone the benefit of the doubt than needlessly condemning someone who is innocent.

I fly a half dozen or so times a year, and don't think I've ever been on a flight with a service dog. It kind of surprises me that it's that big of an issue.

If fly a decent amount for work. Two of my last three flights have had big dogs on it. The last flight was a family.

As long as the dog can act well in public and around people, it doesnt bother me.

I average about 1.5 flights per week. It's now part of my life. It wasn't 2-3 years ago. Airports now have to have doggie poo areas. Someone pays for that.
