There's no doubt about it. I'm not gonna get political but if we want to objectively talk about why ESPN is losing people 360 degrees, there is absolutely a section on the pie chart for politics.

I've seen a handful of different articles in the past couple months that Disney CEO Bob Iger is planning on making a 2020 Presidential run, and that shifting his company to the left is setting the groundwork for that...:idunno:

This was done in the Cincinnati market....As ESPN Became More Political, It Lost Republican Viewers

Good data and a good start on analysis. Now what we need to see is data from a Democrat market and also a neutral market to compare against. If that data verifies the data from this one market, then you have documentation that the viewership skewed.

Then the next set of data we need is did overall viewership numbers decline in these markets. For example, if the Cincinnati viewership skewed Dem but the total number of viewers did not decline because they added Dem viewers versus losing Republicans or the added Dems offset the lost R's, then the political angle had no impact on losing viewers.

Bottom line, like most statistics, you need numbers from a variety of angles to prove a point. A single set of data does not prove a point. It is a beginning to prove a point.

This is why I think they're failing, stale leadership who thought they were untouchable.

Just read a report that ESPN is still the highest rated cable network for the 18-49 demographic and in 2016 was #2 behind Fox News(Election Year) for most watched cable network overall.

I guess there are more left leaning folks who are watching ESPN than we thought.

I wonder where it would rank for programming that wasn't live sporting events. Extremely hard to judge probably.

I'd say they'd have had to have had the history of all non live sports programming for the ratings to be accurate.

They must have had a high schooler directing the Bases Loaded Programming last night. It was awful. Either that or the switcher was on 'ludes.

I don't know the numbers and can't comment on that specifically, so this is a general comment here. It's not about total numbers, it's about market share. ESPN may very well still be the leader in market share for their product and may still have a large number of viewers overall. BUT, if they have lost market share that's a scary thing for them, or any company. Anheuser Busch still has a big market share in beer, but it has slipped quite a bit over the years due in no small part to the growth of the craft brew market. They don't like that and it's bad for business. So what is their response? Buy up all the craft beer brewers they can, as are the other giant brewers.

ESPN has probably and more likely than not has lost market share and looking for ways to alleviate/counter that.

My general point is that even though many claim that ESPN lost their viewers because of their liberal lean they are still at worst the second most watched channel on cable despite cable channel viewership declining across all cable channels.

Pirates PR dept took a shot at ESPN .

Buccos have a pitcher coming back from a cancer scare and there was an interview. ESPN had no one there to cover it and tweeted the Pirates to ask permission to use the film. Pirates PR Dept said "I'll send it to Jayson Stark and you can get it from him."

That is excellent. So well done. :lol2: :lol2:

Did Jonathan Coachman get laid off?

I didn't see any reports of his demise.
