April 28, 20179 yr Everything is black/white, left/right, commie/democracy. The refusal to acknowledge it and discuss it is why there is such a great divide in America right now. Everyone wants to "tune it out" and I guess they think it will go away and heal itself. Thats just where we are going to have to disagree.

April 28, 20179 yr My biggest thing with Mike and Mike is the constant NFL talk, even in the middle of baseball season. I get ESPN is in bed with the NFL, but even during the NCAA tourney they'd be talking NFL. Also theyre a little to Disney (I know Disney owns ESPN) in their approach. I personally think just to many talking head shows for one station. All the sports around the world they could air I think would help, but im sure they did some kind of financial study on that as well.

And doesn't it seem somewhat ironic...you mention that ESPN is "moving more to that format than ever before" (assuming you are referring to political commentary), yet they are struggling more than ever before and just let go 100 people as a result. Maybe they are moving in the wrong direction?:idunno: Logic has left the house. I am one of those who has/is close to completely tuning out of sports, especially professional. It is laughable the millions that these athletes earn...albeit for many a short period of time...how much TV makes off of sports...et. al, and they are not a bit sensitive to alienating the people who contribute to their financial well-being. Sort of an entitlement mentality. I'll have none of it.
April 28, 20179 yr Do they pay both conferences for broadcast rights? I would presume so, but I don't know exactly how that works out in terms of trade for services rendered as far as paying on-air talent and behind-the-scenes technical people.

April 30, 20179 yr If I were alive for any of those, I'd have tuned it out just like I do now. You wouldn't have to tune it out. There were only 3 channels. And it would have gotten about 60 seconds on the local sports broadcast at 6:00. Yes, the local news was only 30 minutes.

Yes, the local news was only 30 minutes. Yes, but newspapers and magazines ruled the news and sporting world during those times. Sports Illustrated was, and still is, just at political as ESPN. Sports columnists were the "on-air" celebrities from the advent of sports reporting in the US.

Presently ESPN is on the hook for the following yearly sports rights payments: $1.9 billion a year to the NFL for Monday Night Football, $1.47 billion to the NBA, $700 million to Major League Baseball, $608 million for the College Football Playoff, $225 million to the ACC, $190 million to the Big Ten, $120 million to the Big 12, $125 million a year to the PAC 12, and hundreds of millions more to the SEC. May 1, 20179 yr They don't like him because he's loud and says what he thinks regardless of what it's about. Some of the same people that hate him love President Trump for the same reasons. I like SAS, don't always agree with him and I think he gets a little dramatic at times but maybe that's what ESPN wanted, don't know.
