I thought about the Sunday thing myself, but both schools are aware that CSAA games are played on Sundays' and it wouldn't have been fair to the little guys. I can remember when X played Flaget on Sunday afternoons . That was pretty neat. I wish that DeSales -Holy Cross-St.X - Trinity could work something like that out at the start of the year. A Louisville Catholic School invitational, of sorts.

Why wasn't the game replayed at Manual Stadium on Saturday? That way you could have a "true winner" Keep the money for ticket sales and let in as many as possible on Saturday with no charge. This might be already mentioned, just too lazy to read all the posts.

Plus, can you imagine the riot with the 25,000 or so fans that paid on Friday night but didn't get in on Sunday! The school could not have played somewhere else and let a certain number in without refunding the rest!

PJCS was booked on Sunday. There is no other venue in Louisville that is large enough.

It was, it was the same band competition that was scheduled for Saturday. By then of course, the decision had been made and the result was official.

The game in not all about the fans. If they are true fans they would have understood and let the game be played, or maybe Insight could have stepped up. Games were played all over Western Kentucky and Manual was on a bye week There were games played on Saturday.

I agree, it was about money. If the game was a "no contest", cancelled completely, or moved to a smaller, undersized facility, refunds would have been demanded. Declaring it an official game no one, now, is entitled to a refund.

It was about one thing and only one thing - the safety of the players and fans. Playing on Friday night would have endangered both. Attempting to play in too small a venue would have endangered the fans. It is that simple. Both teams and their administrators wanted to finish. It just wasn't feasible.

How many games had 30,000+ at them? Manual doesn't want their field to be torn up, which is very understandble. Even then, what do you do about charging admission for the game on Saturday? Do you allow all those that bought tickets to bring their stubs? Do you sell tickets to whomever shows up? What if 25,000 people show up at Manual Stadium demanding to get in since they paid to see the game? You can't fit anywhere close to that many. If you did it on a first come, first serve basis, you would have quite a few unhappy campers outside the gates.

I have absolutely no dog in this fight - doesn't matter to me whether Trinity or Saint X wins. Odds are fairly good that they will meet again in the playoffs.

 

It makes perfect sense that the field conditions at the time would not allow the game to be completed on Friday. The safety of the players comes first.

 

To imply that the game was not completed somewhere over the weekend because not enough fans could attend seems odd. Finish the game somewhere, let as many fans attend as possible; refund the rest, but above all, let the kids play.

 

I remember several years ago during "conference basketball championship week" (the week before the NCAA tournament) where one of the small northeast conferences (you know - Rider, Marist, one of those conferences) held a game WITH NO FANS. There was some kind of contagious outbreak - flu, maybe something worse, I don't remember exactly what it was. The game was played in an empty gym. The point being, the game is about the players first and foremost - from the standpoint of safety, first and foremost; but also from the standpoint of rewarding weeks, months and years of effort.

 

I know a lot of folks wish there had been a "Plan B", but probably the players most of all.

I agree with Trinity Alum on the aspect that the reason the game was not finished was for the safety of the players and fans in attendance...but the biggest reason I have heard so far on this thread on why the game was not rescheduled or even TRIED to be rescheduled was because of the monetary value if the game was moved to a smaller venue such as Trinity's field or Manual Stadium. Granted the gate would have been smaller, but at least the Seniors on Trinity and X would have gotten to have played their rivalry game. I am sure the players are buying the reasons being given for not playing the game.

 

Something that has not been brought up yet is everyone knew the weather forecast going into Friday night had a good chance of some bad weather...how come backup plan was not put into place for a scenario such as this one with having to postpone the game...I know that Mayfield-Tilghman's administration had already talked that if by chance that the game could not have been played Friday night that they had their backup plan in place. Just curious to why the "BIG GAME" did not have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. I bet next year they have one!!!
