BGP QOTD: What is your favorite poor person meal?

Featured Replies

Probably won't quite be every day...so this will probably end somewhere between question of the day and question of the week. Question of the "dweek"? Question of the "way"? ...whatever. I figured this would make for some interesting conversation when things start getting slow-ish during the spring and summer months.

So today's question: What's your favorite poor person meal? What do you eat when the pantry is bare and funds aren't so high?

Do you have a different favorite poor person meal for when it's just you than you do when you're feeding others?

I've had a cold coming on for about a week and it's starting to make its way into my chest. The wife was at a work dinner last night and I couldn't decide what to have for dinner, so I pulled out a pa

When I first moved out on my own, my go-to poor man's meal was ALWAYS Uncle Ben's microwave ready red beans and rice.

Fried baloney sandwich with cheese and mayo. Add potato chips between the bread as part of the sandwich and go at it.

It's so good it'll make your tongue slap your nose sideways!

Spaghettio's.

And not really a meal, but I spread peanut butter on some nilla wafers a few nights ago and was pleased with the results.

Choices I always have available:

Pasta with olive oil, onion garlic and parmesan chesee

Pasta with marinara

Roasted Brussels sprouts

Brown Rice with Black Beans, corn, diced tomatoes, onion, cumin, chili powder, shredded cheddar.

And I can make a roasted deli chicken last for over a week.

I'm kind of the queen of eating well on a poverty budget.

Tuna melt or tuna and crackers. If there is a can/packet of tuna in the pantry I'm good to go.

Macaroni N'Cheese with hot dogs cut up in them.

Baked Beans with hot dogs cut up in them.

Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee something or other and some bread-n-butter.

Mayonnaise Sandwiches...my go to in college.

Peanutbutter and Syrup with crackers or on bread.

Tuna and Toast

Can of mixed vegetables (always seem to be a can in the cabinet) and some tomato juice makes a quick, easy and cheap vegetable soup.

Tuna mixed with Mac and Cheese

Dammit, I'm a teacher so the funds never run low. However, hypothetically speaking, "I'd say my go to cheap meals would be PB&Crackers, PB&J sandwich, or grilled cheese sandwich.

A pot of pinto beans and cornbread. I think that qualifies. Make that last almost a whole week. A little bit of onion to eat along with it really tops it off.

How bout a nice MLT. Mutton, lettuce, and tomatoe sandwich. When the mutton is nice and lean and the tomatoes are just right. :D

Actually my go to was always Kraft mac & cheese and a peanut butter sandwich, or a bologna sandwich and Campbell's chicken noodle soup.
