I think basketball has always been Jake's favorite sport.

Based off your comments.. are you basing this off your D1 playing or coaching career?

Congratulations Jake.

Just because WKU is better than NKU doesnt mean Jake was a right fit at NKU, they have a freshman guard that was every bit as good as Jake in high school and better than him on the AAU circuit. Jake impressed the WKU staff which is great for him. Going to WKU doesnt guarantee he will ever play significant minutes there. I could make a very long list of the players who went D1 only to transfer to a NAIA or D2 school due to lack of playing time. Wish the kid nothing but success but knocking the NKU staff after the year they had just because they didnt recruit a kid that no D1 was recruiting doesnt seem right in my book.

Not sure what playing D1 or coaching D1 has to do with my comments, I did play 4 years of college ball and was a D2 assistant coach. Wasnt saying Jake cant succeed at WKU but just defending NKU which can look at players different than WKU, doesnt make one right or one wrong. And like I said I have played against and watched alot of kids who went D1 but ended up at a NAIA school or D2 due to playing time. Not saying that will happen to Jake because he is a very good player but he isnt a sure fire lock to have a great career at WKU. He will have stiff competition for playing time at WKU.

WKU or NKU or any school. Why is that we just can't be happy for him and wish him well and leave it at that? I coached Jake for 3 years in AAU ball and while he was never as tall as most of the players he had the heart of a lion and I don't care who you are or your opinion of his skills you cannot measure a persons will. He showed that this week and obviously WKU saw something they wanted and needed to offer him a scholarship. He's been fueled by doubters and I will venture to say he will prove a lot of people wrong before it's all over with.

Congrats young man. Why I love sports so much, it helps athletes play the game they love and get a college education.

If he is truly the gifted athlete he can rule out the NBA but would have had a slim chance at mlb. I'm sure parents helped him but I swear there isn't much need for a 6 foot guard in DI basketball anymore, kids like him are a dime a dozen in AAU circuit.

George Fant played basketball for WKU for 4 years, played 1 year of football after basketball was over and is now an offensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks. Greg Paulus played basketball for Duke for 4 years and then went to Syracuse and played 1 year of football there. Good to see you wish him the absolute best even though your post reeks of second guessing his choice despite you not knowing all available options.

Saw the post about football and basketball being the only sports that give full rides based off of Head count and it is absolutely true. Thanks to football and Title 9 it's much easier and more common for women to get full rides in sports than it is for males. Just about every sport that schools offer for females give full rides based off head count just to make up for the ones the football team gives out.

 

Unfortunately the other sports at the schools suffer the consequences from it, sucks that it has to be that way but it will never change.

Unfair to NKU to second guess The Jake not being the fit most of us wish they were looking for. Selfishly, would have loved to watch him regularly on the BB&T hardwood. So, glad that his dreams will have the opportunity to continue at WKU. He's a winner!
