8th Region Draw

Featured Replies

I like the atmosphere at Henry and don't mind the drive from Independence. Wish there were some close options for food and better parking.
Amen to both.

I believe that this may have been the case originally - a contract requiring the region to be at Henry - but that is long ago obsolete. They almost moved it a few years ago for a year when they were renovating the gym - but the sentiment was too strong to "keep the streak alive".

Glad they opted to do so....it's become quite the tradition.

Second-longest streak of a region tournament at one venue is the first region at Murray State University, I believe....but that just doesn't hold the charm of the tourney in a true HS gym.

I love broadcasting there, and have been doing so since 1979 ....beginning 20 years ago, we (Pegasus Sports) began covering each and every game of the tourney.

I miss the big scoreboard in the middle, too.... :-(

First round on Pegasus tomorrow night:

Gallatin vs. Williamstown - on air 30 minutes prior to tip

immediately afterward:

Oldham County vs. Collins

The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN

first round games audio only; SF and finals on video

You are correct Colonel Mike, it is a vote for where the region is held, at Henry will always host it, to many schools are going to vote for it, and why not they are relatively close. The girls is on a rotation, voted on by the coaches I have heard. The only gym that is large enough to hold the boys is Henry County's gym, especially semi-final night.

Will South rise again? Their previous trips to Rupp they went as district runner-up, I believe.

That's correct.

Your right about that. If you pass up Carrolton and expect to eat on up the road, you`re going hungry. Unless you want some dogs at the game.

No other gymnasium can can come close to having enough capacity to host the tournament.

Agreed. Someone mentioned Carroll Co hosting the All A as being comparable. Nothing compares to the size of regional tournament crowds.

Long live the Roy!

McDonalds and Dairy Queen just a few minutes away in Eminence.

Thats right scon. I sometimes cut across country from Williamstown through Owenton and they also have a few good spots to eat.

Google maps says there's a place in downtown New Castle called Buddy's Place???? I might check it out before tomorrow night's game, see if it even exists.

Stopped by Buddy's about 5:00 last night but it was closed. Had to travel on to McDonalds in Eminence. Wish I'd waited for Our Best who was catering at The Roy.

Got the fried green tomatoes and chicken wings last night while watching the games.
