If you find the content of this thread terrible, then why are you participating in it? My goodness, the Bluebird of happiness needs to make a stop in Ft. Thomas.

I participate because I'm a moderator and the ST X v Trinity threads definitely need moderating. Second, as sticky has already said, I have no association with Highlands.

Stein had a great game both running and passing. He had one run in particular where he was flushed out of the pocket and was nearly tackled a couple of times only to pop free and run for a TD. He had a long TD bomb to Bobby Petrino that was a thing of beauty. A great ball caught in full stride down the sideline for about 70 yards.

Do you think X had problems adjusting/preparing for Cov's offense?

Who told you it was a "friendly rivalry"? In the very first game in 1956, St. Xavier left their starters in until 2 minutes remained in a 48-0 romp over the first varsity Trinity team with Seniors. The long time AD of Trinity, Father Jansing explained to me that St.X was forced into starting the series by the local Catholic hierarchy. They tried to "beat us into the ground" so the series would not continue. Ancient history by today's standards. The article in the Courier-Journal confirms that St. X did have their starters in until very late.

Friendly rivalry, I think not. Great rivalry, yes indeed. This week the alums tolerate each other at work, etc. Those related by marriage are in a tough spot. Those who have histories at both schools try to stay neutral, but deep down they choose a side. Former Westport head coach Earl Browning refers to this game as a "Holy War". There are no artificial geographical boundaries in this match up. We live together in harmony 50 or 51 weeks out of the year. This week is a little different.

I have friends and relatives from X. They are good people and we get along just fine. BUT, let's face it, I want to beat those people anytime, anywhere, anything. If two guys, one dressed in green and white and one dressed in green and yellow lined up to pitch pennies I'd buy a ticket to watch and yell myself hoarse. That is the nature of this rivalry. It is what makes this week one of the highlights of the year. It is also what makes this the finest rivalry in the nation. One down, two to go. GO ROCKS!!

The Trinity defense played well. The third string Rocks gave up the hard fought lone St. Xavier score late in the fourth quarter. Trinity's Stein was a leader and enjoys the pressure of playing QB. I don't have official stats available, but I can say this is one of the more lopsided victories in this series at the JV level. Back up QB Smith had a tough day. Back up QB Bennett looked better. Linebackers Whiting and Netherton played well as did DG Bishop.

A St. Xavier teacher told me that the sophomore skill players at St. Xavier elected not to play in this game. He has been at St. Xavier for 25 years. I trust what he tells me.

HHSDad is doing his job as a mod.

There is nothing wrong with a passionate rivalry. Everyone knows that T/X have one of the best in country (for high school) HOWEVER it really is ok to have some class about it...remember this is high school sports.

No, I don't think it was that. I think that its difficult to adjust/prepare for the spread when the QB is able and willing to run. As strange as it sounds, X just didn't seem ready to play. Silly mental penalties, not staying home on defense, going to the pass too early and too often, stuff like that. Like I said in my earlier post, very un-X like. I look forward to the next battle, the "Clash of Freshmen" on Thursday evening. The weather looks good and it should be a good game.

^ I agree. I think Coach Cov wants the varsity one bad.

The first time I have ever agreed with you. Best analogy I have seen. Juniors or not X could have played better.

This Rock JV team is cooking... just looked at the web page, they are scoring some serious points this year! Good job Rock-O's! A side note question... will the new field at St. X be ready for next years game?

The stadium will be ready on or about 4/1/06, ahead of schedule by a few months.

Yes, the stadium is ahead of schedule so far and could be ready as soon as this April, certainly more than ready for next football season.

Very well put TA. I don't care if Brian Brohm came back to play, X lost and T won. Green and white over green and Gold. 1 down, 2 to go this week. This loss broke a Pride week winning streak back to September 26, 2003 for the Tigers. But I don't think week 5 is that important to T's fans. Only week 15.

Congrats Rock JV fans and see you at Papa John's on Friday.

By the way, Rick Buehner and Tendai Charisika are dressing for the freshmen game!! lol:

I think Dicky Lyons still has some freshman eligibility left since he started varsity as a freshman!

So if Stein looked good and Petrino struggles on the varsity level

( hypothetically, of course!) , would you ever see Beatty switch away from Nick to Will?

There is no such thing as a "friendly rivalry" nor should there be.

Trinity JVs beat X JVs in all aspects of that game.

I was real impressed with Stein and did not realize he was such an efficient passer.

The kicker was also spectacular. I have not heard of him until the game. I will not forget him.

St. X played Juniors in this game and have done so in the past.

I hate losing to Trintiy, no HATE losing to Trinity.

This is a great rivalry and if your team does not have one (a great rivalry) you are missing one of the highlights of high school football.
