United States does not veto UN Resolution

Featured Replies

To the extent that Isreal is the only country in the region that truly allies with the US, we need to be tuned in to what is going on with them, and ally with them.

The fact that the UN is choosing this topic and ignoring the balance should tell everyone what a disaster that organization is....

If we do not support Isreal, to whatever extent is necessary, we will find no ally in that part of the world and eventually have to fight the balance on our own entirely.

It could be argued that Palestine has even less.

And as long as they are hurling bombs, rockets at Israel they wont. Suicide bombers wont work either. Im surprised you support these actions against someone who is just defending themselves.

Jesse, is anyone really supporting such actions? Or are we speaking of dialogue? Not all Palestinians are terrorists. In fact, not all are Muslim.

I think it stinks what Obama has done. But, like you, I don't give Israel a blank check for everything they do either. I wouldn't condemn them for anything except their current leadership doesn't seem to eager to even discuss the settlement developments.

I certainly feel alot are taking the sides of some bad hombres. :)

The leadership of Europe isn"t the same today. Anti-Semitism has been growing in Europe for years and it's very said. It's said the UN takes time to demonize the only free country in the Middle East , while ignoring genocide Syria.

It may be. Maybe they are taking the anti-PC route the UK and US are taking.

The UN has done nothing with the Syrian conflict other than toothless decrees much like the one that has everybody's panties in a wad.

Does the only free country in the ME support a two-state solution or not?

I don't support terrorists; I don't support the violations of human rights by some Muslim countries; so put away the broad brush.

Peace hangs by a thread over there and both sides need to approach the table with an effort, and in this case it seems Israel seems to be continuing their aspirations without regard.

There are good threads and bad threads on BGP's . The content , not the topic , has made this one of the worst .

Something about one bad apple and the bushel or something to that effect.

Odd you felt the need to reply. Ironic actually. I've had my share of poor moments but never suggested letting an entire country and their people get wiped out due to " weakness " . I think you are just posting :poop: to get a rile out of people and the last 60 days or so ( early Nov ?) you seem like you have went off the deep end , but 2017' is around the corner - maybe the New Year will be happier for you .

One passive aggressive post deserves another. You don't know me at all so you'd never know if I went off any deep end. Plus I love irony.

Didnt click on the link but looks like 4 Elvis's . ? too old for me .

I've never been of the belief Israel was obligated to give up any land. They were attacked in 1967 and claimed the land after winning a war and occupied it to protect from a future attack. Jordan held the land prior and has given up any right to the land. As long as terrorists have large roles in Palestinian leadership you cannot take them serious.

I also saw someone mention all Palestinians are not Muslims. This is correct there are Christians . I work with a woman who is Eastern Orthodox Christian and her entire family was driven out of their homes by these terrorists.

Israel is a nation of a Jewish majority but also has Christian and Muslim citizens.

First it is just funny to me when you claim to just have "questions" when it is something to make someone on the left look bad. I've been waiting for weeks to see if you would have a similar dialogue with the president elect. It doesn't seem to take place.

No idea what the above is saying. Please explain.

Secondly as I've stated while this resoultion does not come with sanctions , it does change international law on the settlements. Condemning citizens who had been in that region for decades. It did not just condemn new settlements.

It changes law or it makes recommendations? I've yet to see where it changes any existing law. That's why I asked if you had something showing it changes the law.

On your next point what veto power do you speak of that wasn't used on a comparable bill. Are you repeating a line from an article or can you state a credible specific resolution that had similar global impact that the United States has not vetoed?

Re: veto - I'm asking how this abstaining from voting compares to past Presidents who abstained on Israel issues.

I'm also asking how President Obama actions/statements/stance towards Israel compares to that of his predecessors.

Finally on terrorism you don't see how condemning Israel in the UN gives credence and power to those who want to destroy Israel. The very people who do not believe they have a right to exist ? You gave them power and credibility to strike on future Israeli movements.

I don't see how this gives them any more power than they already do or do not have. It's not like they were going to stop doing what they're doing based off of the UN.

Let me ask 3 questions to this then

1. Do you think we should offer defense support for Israel?

2. If so why? If not , why ?

3. Do you consider Israel a friend/ally ?

1. Yes

2. Ally in a troubled area

3. See 2

But why is it an either/or? We still are sending a record amount of financial aid. We're still providing fighter jets.

I don't see how saying that I don't have a problem with the UN telling Israel to obey international law equates to a)being against Israel and/or b)being FOR terrorist states.

Not familiar enough with Israel or this topic to give much of an opinion, but I am of the belief that we as a nation spend entirely too much time and energy involved in things that we should probably stay out of.

This.
