United States does not veto UN Resolution

There are many Jews and Palestinians that live in peace with each other and I'm sure Israel would love for a peace between them but leaders of the Palestinians want Jews eliminated and use territory they have to allow groups like Hamas to launch terror attacks from those places.

I don't always agree with you but this is 100% accurate. 20% of Israeli population is Arab living peacefully with equal rights.

Serious question and I don't know the answer. Who was the last lame duck president to make such a large foreign policy decision after an election. I'm sure there is an example, but I can't recall George W doing anything major after the Obama win.

I also know after Clinton won George H.W. called Clinton about sending troops into Somalia and Clinton came out in support of it.

Is this unprecedented in the modern era?

GW wasn't trying to appease the Muslim Brotherhood like Obamas and Jarrett are.

This John Kerry speech is so bad and full of flaws. I remeber why he was such a bad candidate.

We literally could not have two worse people running the USA's foreign affairs than Obama and Kerry. Both are totally incompetent and totally arrogant. As much as I am not a fan of HRC, I would feel better with her in charge than either of these bozos.

I am not positive but it has been pretty much standard procedure for a lame duck president to not make major policy decisions like this...leave it to the new guy...

That is what makes this whole deal even more outrageous. There is nothing new happening now that wasn't the case years ago. Why did the US veto basically the same resolution five years ago but not now? Because Obama knows he does not have to deal with the fallout now. Just a despicable thing to do to an ally and the president elect. This is simply Obama giving Netenyahu and Trump the middle finger...

Another question can you honestly say this had any other meaning than a direct shot at Israeli leadership and the incoming Trump leadership. To do this in the final days in office isn't great leadership. Everyone knows Trump's policy will be different and all of this will be reversed.

If the Obama adminstration thought the resolution was the right thing why not have the guts to vote for it or abstain when it came up in 2011.

This vote did more to jeopardize a two state solution than any action by a US president because now we have backed Israel in a corner against it's enemies.

If there is major conflict in the immediate future we can point to this resolution.

Most truth thats been spoken in this thread.

As far as some of you are concerned a president needs to step away from any type of presidential decisions in that last year of their term. :lol2:

I hope Trump spends 2020 at Mar-a-lago :)

If he wants he can start in 2019.

I didn't say the last year. I said after the election is over and he is a lame duck president. Making a situation more difficult for the incoming president. This obviously made the situation worse and made Israel weaker at negoiations.

This and the SCOTUS appointment earlier this year just come the mind.

IMO Trump's meddling in foreign policy before being sworn in is much worse than the guy who has taken the oath twice doing his job.

Trump may have an easier time of building the wall and having Mexico pay for it than overturning this resolution. It will take 8 security council votes without Russia, China, UK, or France vetoing it.

Anyway it's time to do something new. They've tried about 30 different peace processes and the same things keep happening: Palestine continues violence and Israel keeps expanding.

If it makes Israel reassess the situation as if the US wasn't behind them...well that's probably a good thing. Several nations need to think about that.

Israel isn't the problem. Again past precedence shows normally the President elect is involved in decision making after elected . As I stated earlier George H.W. called Clinton and got approval before sending into Somalia .

It may be difficult but let's see what the UN does when the United States pulls back 25% of the funding. UN already caved to Saudia Arabia a few years back for less.

Israel isn't ALL the problem. Plenty of guilt to go around: even some the US owns.

That's totally at the previous administration's discretion, and definitely wouldn't be anything like what Trump did.

I'll believe it when I see it. Washington LOVES being the big dogs on the international stage. Pull the funds and China may step right in.

Really this type of posts leave me scratching my head and makes me wonder how much you understand the situation or it is just a continued pattern of rubber stamping your guys policy ?

Did you know Israel was attacked 3 times before a settlement was ever built ?

Did you know at the request of the United States Israel quit building settlements at one point and pulled back 21,000 Israeli citizens in the name of peace. Only to have Palestinians after the fact move into that area and launch rockets into the heart of Israel?

Did you know Israel offered Palestinians a two state peace agreement in 1937, 1948, 1967, 2000, 2005, and 2008. Only to have Palestinians or other Arabs walk away from talks because they refuse to acknowledge Israels right to exisit .

Did you know Palestine has never been a country, ever in human history?

Did you know Jews have lived in that area for thousands of years ?

Did you know Arabs in the area tried to ethnically cleanse Jews from the entire area prior to WW2?

Did you know the Jewish population in all Arab countries is a fraction of what it used to be I believe 10,000 because of outright slaughter ?

Did you know Arabs make up 20% of the Israeli population and have equal rights to Jewish citizens?

This resolution said it is illegal for Israel to be anywhere in Jerusalem, no other resolution stated. Palestinians want to negoiate with that being the starting point. Jews not being in Jerusalem is a non starter in peace talks.

Settlements are not the problem , a group of people Hammas , Hezzbolah, and the PLO who reign down violence and refuse to acknowledge Israel right to exisit is the problem. Our president turning his back on Israel and giving strength to terrorists is literally going to cause chaos and goes against all American precedent.

Just stop do not put Israel and the United States on a moral equivalancy to Palestinians and their terror groups. The blame falls entirley on the group who launches rockets into Israel and doesn't want Israel to exisit.

Rubber stamping would be endorsing the same old policy that has not worked: never will work.

I don't support terrorists and fully understand the history behind these two groups of people. Some of your Facts are a bit one-sided. Both have claim on this land. Both groups have inhabited it for thousands of years. Both need to work to find peace.
