Not to be mean or anything but I just about spit out my drink in reading your comment about Ky. You do know that it has been a long, long, long, long, time since the Democrats haven't been in control of the Commonwealth.

 

I will tell you a little story since you feel you are being left out in Ky. I was married in 1970 to a lovely young lady from Ohio and we lived there for a year or two but due to a job change, we moved back to Kentucky. After we moved in I went to the Boone County Courthouse to change my Drivers License, License Plates and to Register to Vote. In Registering to Vote and being a Republican, I was taken aback by the women behind the counter when she inquired "are you sure you want to register Republican"? When I replied yes, she told me "Ok but you will never get to vote in the general election, as the only election that matters in Boone County, is the Democrat Primary"! Talk about having the feeling of being left out.

The EC has been discussed on this board more than a few times over the year. But it's like anything else...something isn't a problem until it's a problem. And it's now happened twice in the last 5 elections, and a major reason why there's a feeling of hopelessness in the big cities. People are calling for things, but not being listened to. I also can't help but think the cries would be just as loud (and as warranted) if the shoe was on the other foot.

Hopelessness in inner cities because they feel left out? Due to the EC? My guess is that many don't even know what the EC is. The hopelessness and despair that you say exists in inner cities, is probably more closely related to the governance of those cities. Politics starts at the local level. Besides, you are cultivating a notion that the Federal Govt is the answer to ones problems.

Has nothing to do with relying on Government. Just look at a few posts on this board saying how misguided they are and how wrong any choice of theirs would be. Your post here with the statement "they don't even know what the EC is" implies you don't think they are intelligent enough or educated enough to cast a vote. Why do you guess that?? Are inner city dwellers inherently unintelligent?? Or are the non city dwellers just smarter and better suited to make the choice. When a group is constantly told their opinion doesn't matter, or they aren't smart enough to make a good choice, that doesn't exactly lead to hope.

Before that Clinton carried it in back to back elections and Carter carried it his first run. Prior to Bush in the previous 6 elections it was 3R to 3D.

I would. I've been in a few discussions on here before about the EC's irrelevancy in today's world.

I hope if there's any future changes that it's letting the individual congressional districts count as one electoral vote and award the two senate votes per state to the candidate that wins the overall state vote.

If a took a mic and a video camera, and a "man on the street" type thing BEFORE the election, I would imagine 30-40% of interviewees would think the EC is an actual college or university.....not just inner city folks, but from all walks of life. Politicians do not provide hope, they generally try to circumvent the best man made hope ever, the US Constitution.

I say that anyway. Game is over now. Trump won, but the rules committee needs to come together and improve the game.

Maybe if the large cities are not willing to compromise when middle America does not want their liberal agendas, they could start a succession movement and lets give them a few states on one coast or the other and let them run it the way it seems fit. The rest of the country run those states the way they seem fit. See who lasts the longest.

 

I mean if we cant agree and we are so far off with each other, and nobody is willing to compromise, what options would be better? One side try to dominate the other to their beliefs? Thats whats going on now on both sides. Neither side is happy. And we are to the point I think the compromise has went about as far as its going. Dont believe me? Just read some of these threads on here and look at the Presidential race this year and see for yourself. Never has America been more divided. Never.
