The First NKY Top 10 Fan Poll

Nothing ever comes easy in life... you have to work for everything you get and this is what I truly believe the Bluebirds live by. They know State Championships are not a gurantee just because you put on the Highlands uniform.

I have been around a few programs in my life. I know of no other with such a committment to winning as the Bluebirds, and that's not a knock on any other program. Straightup truth. You have to experience the commitment that is made to believe such really exist. Great programs like T, St.X must know as well. To BE YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT in the hunt for a championship.

I think it was in 1980. Led a team to a 9-1 record with only loss coming to Newport.

Correct. Graduated in 1981. Good qb. The loss to Newport knocked them out of the playoffs. That was when 3A had about 8 teams and they were split into sub-divisions.

The statewide AP Poll:

1A 1.NCC 2. Beechwood

2A 3. Newport

3A 1. HHS 3. CCH

Are you sure about that?

(It looks like the "all knowing" Ryan Ernst vote that he published on the enquirer's blog).

Ryan must know something that the rest of us don't . . . . . . I could see why people like NCC so much--but last week Newport was number 6 in the AP poll. I guess any team that can stick within 20 points of NCC is good enough to move up 3 spots in his eyes (the "real" AP poll drops Newport to 8--which is a respectable drop considering that a lot of teams drop more). I also have to wonder about Mr. Ernst's thought process when the AP poll moves NCC down to 4th . . . . . and he gives them the #1.

It just goes to show--polls mean nothing all the way around . . . . .

Someone made the comment that the parents should do something to make 4A better and what exactly would that be? Complain to the coaches...that will help the team...right? Do you really think that coaches listen to what parents think? If they did changes would occur much faster and kids on teams would be better sooner based on talent and not grade level... Maybe parents can see alittle better from the stands....

As for the guys on the team stepping up and being leaders...how do juniors and sophs step up to lead over seniors without causing a huge problem on the team? In a perfect world, leaders would emerge but in high school it's still the senior classman rule. Coaches select team captains based on grade level over leadership ability and than wonder why there is no leadership...If you are hand picked by a coach to be a leader and fail, where does the fault lie? What is the solution?

Team captains should only be chosen by a vote of the players, not by the head coach. The kids know who they look up to and who leads them more than the head coach does IMO.
