I went through 4 years of high school and I've seen kids absolutely work their but off, and bleed for the good of the program. Then when game time came they maybe saw some special teams. I have seen some lazy kids be all stars, its about the level of talent coming in, sir. The truth is talent comes before work in high school. And to make the comment that certain programs work harder than others is true in some cases, but to make a broad generalization like that is idiotic. A program has several D1 recruits will most likely beat a team with zero D1 recruist most of the time. You CANNOT question the other teams heart as blindly as you have.

D1s? Who has several D1s? Beechwood? Holy Cross? Highlands? NCC? Name them. The lazy all stars don,t play in those programs. If you play the numbers game a much larger school has a larger base of boys to pull from right? Giving the larger school an advantage in talent pool right? Thats the whole arguement for 6 classes right? Then why do the small schools routinely whip the huge 4A schools? I already gave you the answer. And if anyone involved with any of large schools think like you, they will continue to get whipped by the little guys. :fight:

You are ignoring the points made in this thread, if you were an athelete in NKY and you had potential to go somewhere big in college would you stay and play at scott or conner or sk or dixie. No, most likely you would move to one of the programs with more winning tradition and therefore more college scouts. There is no quick fix in NKY 4A, the only thing that will level the playing field is for some of the 4A teams in NKY to dominate for years and years and attract some players to thier schools. Potential big time college atheletes do not care about the size of the school or anything, for that matter, besides the football program and its potential to put them into a big school.

Exactly who are these big time D1 athletes you keep refering to?

Scott, I don't know where to go with this one, they usually fight us till the end but we all know about how bad they've been for quite some time, last time they sniffed the playoffs was in '90, that's a very long time.

Come on now give a little credit we went to the playoffs in 2003 I think it was and beat Bourbon County. So hasn't been that long since we went.

Conner has had a lot more D1 recruits in the past 5 years than Beechwood has. And I would be willing to say that they have had more college (all divisions) compared to Beechwood.

The D1's from Conner (Jeremy Bolton-UC, Scott Kuhn-UofL) stayed there and HELPED Conner build a better team/program.

I am at Beechwood almost everyday of my life--and I can't remember a D1 recruit in the past 5 years (that doesn't mean anything other than I can't remember).

Also--keep in mind--some kids would rather sit down at a table that they helped to build as opposed to sitting down at a table that was already built by someone else. Therefore--the D1 argument carries no weight.

Places like Beechwood and Highlands are getting a raw deal here. Honestly--there is an established tradition that forces the kids to do things right (or they don't play), to work harder (or they do not play) and to find a way to continue that tradition (or they do not play).

In my opinion--coaching has a lot more to do with that (not recruiting--like some people are trying to say). Dale Mueller or Mike Yeagle could go anywhere and win (and win big)--because they know have to develop young men who buy into what they teach.

Either way--the insinuations that certain coaches go looking for talent is bogus. When you are that successful--those schools wouldn't have to recruit--even if they wanted to. The student athlete recruits the school--not the other way around.

I don't keep refering to them, and i don't keep tabs on exactly what players are going where in 1A, but you can't sit there and tell me 4A ball can compare to the amount of college recruits on any level that 1A spits out each year.

I'm not sure what your point is here, but you're right 4A has a lot more college recriuits than 1A.

It doesn't happen very often, but I have to agree with quickslick:thumb: :D

OB - tough call on that one . I'm not convinced they have enough weapons this year to beat any of the other teams in front of them - including some teams that have started off poorly. Solid showing against NC. They're on the "wait and see" list.

I can live with that 81.

"The whole six-class thing is a joke," Spritzky said. "I've been in total disagreement with the KHSAA on this from the very beginning."

Spritzky said local coaches sent a letter to the KHSAA objecting to the six-class system when it was first proposed last summer.

From the KYPOST

Really sounds like he was complaining about enrollment issues. I have heard no one make excuses Beechwood drilled Dixie plain and simple, HC beat Holmes

4A schools are in a loose loose situation when they play a NCC or Beechwood, you win and they say you should win because you have more boys, you loose and they say how can the number of boys matters. I would rather play quality teams and try to get ready for the District and Playoffs.

I have heard several N. Ky coaches state, as well as have had several coaches comments relayed to me (thus are subject to some misinterpretation admittedly) that they quite simply cannot get their kids to work as hard as the kids do in Ft. Thomas (and presumably Beechwood, CovCath etc). Fans of various programs THINK the kids in their programs are working hard, but most have ZERO idea what other schools do. Because coaches do move around, they have a better feel for what is happening.

I've been reluctant to post this, but since we lost to LexCath last year, almost every Highlands player not involved in another sport lifted and ran with the coaches at least three times a week all winter. And it was real intense conditioning. The week of June 4th (the first week of summer "vacation"), it was every day from 9-5. The next week it was 6-9 on Mon and Fri. and on Wed was 9-noon. The week of the 19th, practice or passing camps every day for 3 or 4 hours each day. After the dead period, it was every day for 3 or 4 hours the first week (and by the way, in the spring, Dale has a meeting and tells the parents to schedule their summer vacation during the dead period. Most parents willingly do so). The next week if was 5 hours every day. Week of the 24th, twice a day for a total of 8 hours a day. Week of the 31st, same as the prior week plus a scrimmage against Beechwood on Saturday. Same for the week of the 7th of August, plus practice on Saturday. Week of the 14th leading up to the Dixie opener, it was practice every day for 3 hours. And these were not stand around practices. They are up tempo, high energy practices. I don't know of a kid on the team that has ever had a summer job in high school. No time for it. If you can honestly say that almost every kid on your team puts that much time and effort into football, then you are right, our kids don't work any harder than yours. But from what I'm told by several coaches in N. Ky, most kids are not that dedicated and if the coaches pushed them that hard, they'd quit. (Personally, I believe there are some coaches that don't want to put in that much time either). There is a much bigger reason for Highlands success than the couple of players that were not raised in Ft. Thomas but attend Highlands. And that big reason is committment; committment from coaches, players and parents.

We'll see how this pans out in 7 or 8 weeks.
