Realignment--Winners & Losers??

Featured Replies

Considering the draw of athletes that the Beechies have I would probably agree that they would be better served in 2A.

Single A schools should be schools like Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, Bracken Co, etc.

Enrollment wise Beechwoods numbers are much more similar to Bellevue, Dayton and Ludlow and schools such as NCC, Lloyd, HC and Newport are definitely bigger by about 50-75 kids per class then the smaller schools mentioned.

PT and Mayfield should add some hardware over the next decade in this system! I see whoever wins of Mayfield, Beechwood, and Lou Holy Cross to win most years!

PT Coach Perry Thomas was like a little kid in a candy store last night on the news at the thought of their new playoff road!

Since Mayflied is so dominate, why is no one getting on them about not moving up?

Mayfield will not loose most of their local foes other than Murray who has only beat Mayfield 1 time in 30 years

and I guess people want to see the trophy case continue to expand ;)

Losers?

US(the state as a whole)...watered down titles stink.

I agree with a few others in that Tilghman was probably the biggest winner.

As far as other teams in far West Kentucky: Calloway County and Lone Oak definetley are getting the better end of the deal.

Thing about Tilghman, Calloway, and Lone Oak, not only does the district not appear to be that great, but the Region itself is relatively weak (I mean this with no disrespect at all to the other teams in the district and region; just stating a matter of fact in that these schools are not traditionally football schools).

Between CovCath, Highlands, and JH no one will dominate.

JH is on the other side of the playoff brackett with only Christain Co and a spattering of teams who really have no tradition of being powerful in Highschool football. Also If I were a kid in Hardin Co. wanting to play football I would want a close to new top of the line facility to play for and one that has a state championship coach so I think that John only continues to get better. They do not have the stature that cov Cath and Highlands have YET but the cards are laid out right to make them a powerhouse. I guess time will tell.

NCC: has only become a strong rival recently (since 2000 Beechwood is 7-4 before that . . . . .Not even close)

Not trying to knitpick here, or cause a riff, but seriously, how long can you say until recently? It's been 6 years and we aren't dropping off in the least, if anything, getting stronger. Far from a flash in the pan wouldn't you say?

As an NCC fan, I have no problem with Beechwood staying 1A!!!!

I think you are forgetting about Bowling Green in the West. Not exactly chopped liver.

I believe this is the first time, I agree with Rockpride :thumb:

JH's situation is definently looking good. I forgot to mention Bowling Green also, it will be among those 4 teams most years.

NCC has only beaten BW 1 time in the last 5 years.

Bowling Green is in as far as tradition. Hop-town and Waren Central and Owensboro along with JH are THE only threat from the West. Its very weak JH may be undefeated through regional play every year for a while in the new format.

In re Ohio, unlike Ky, in Ohio's largest class (Division 1), no two teams have dominated the class like they have in Ky. While I think there are a whole lot more reasons than just the size differential that T and X enjoy for their success, the size differential between the largest 4A schools and the smallest 4A school is a reason. By adding two more classes, that size differential is reduced. While I think that X and T will continue to win most of the titles in 6A, at least that excuse will be watered down. The size differential in 1A is also reduced. At the end of the day, the state champs in almost every class will still have to beat at least several very, very good teams.

There were options to fix the size discrepancy issues other than adding two classes. Reduce the size of the current class a and 4a and divide everybody else into 2a and 3a could have worked.

Letting more teams in the playoffs really doesn't bother me as much as it does some folks. We allow everyone to make it to the playoffs in almost every other sport (every sport?) so it really doesn't matter much. If nothing else, we allow a lot of kids to keep playing football at least one more week so that can't be a bad thing.

I agree about letting everybody into the playoffs. I follow Indana's playoffs as well and feel their system works well enough. But we didn't have to add two classes to allow every team into the plaoffs.

If you think your team's road to the state championship is watered down, I'd suggest you tell your head coach to schedule a very challenging out of district schedule to compensate for the lack of competition in your class.

I'm not sure how tough regular season scheduling offsets lack of competition in the playoffs? That is where the watered down champion argument comes into play.
