Realignment--Winners & Losers??

Featured Replies

I disagree on Beechwood. Since when does shying away from competition make you a winner? Beechwood could have been a part of a great district with Newport, NCC, Holy Cross, and Lloyd (3 of the four of which Beechwood has had historically had some good matchups with). Instead Beechwood chose to be the big kid on the block with Dayton, Bellevue, and Ludlow.

If I were a Beechwood fan/player/coach, I would have rather played in 2A.

I completely agree.:thumb:

Agreed.

Ohio - 800+ teams and 6 classes and one of the most respected football states in the nation. KY - 220 teams and 6 classes? A watered down system!

IMO a bad example. Ohio has teams that go undefeated, and don't make the playoffs.

They will dominate the 5A.

Between CovCath, Highlands, and JH no one will dominate.

Did Beechwood ask to be moved up? The paper today (Lexington-Herald) said that 11 asked to play up and only 6 were granted their wish. Beechwood could have been one of the 5 denied. I don't know, maybe someone with some knowledge could enlighten us.

With the changing of the guard at Beechwood and a reclass possible after 2 seasons I cant blame them abit, it seems like the logical choice until they see if the ship rights itself to old form. A question for some of the NKY and Beechnuts, will playing in the small 1A class in any way cause a decrease in talent with kids opting to go play elsewhere where they would be in a larger classification?

Sorry--but that is a pretty weak argument. That district is just as weak as the district that they end up in.

NCC: has only become a strong rival recently (since 2000 Beechwood is 7-4 before that . . . . .Not even close)

Lloyd: has beat Beechwood 2 or 3 times in the past 16 years.

Newport: I can think of 2 times they have beat Beechwood (1993?/1999)

Holy Cross: They are 0 for life against Beechwood.

Now--tell me again how that is such a stronger district? It may be a little better--but that is only because of NCC (and with Beechwood in their current district--it is just as comparable). And if you look over the LONG HAUL--it is hard to put them in the same category with Beechwood (you can only do that over the past 5 seasons--and Beechwood has still nearly doubled them up). Heck--Bellevue has beat Beechwood nearly as many times as NCC has in the past 16 years . . . . .

All of you Monday morning QB's need to quit jumping to conclusions. There are a lot of things that you have not factored in (that may be asking a little too much in regard to thought process).

The one thing that none of you have seemed to mention is this--football funds every sport at Beechwood. Did it ever occur to you that the non-district schedule will continue to be tough/productive for a development and financial standpoint? (Think about right now--Dixie (good program/big money game), Alter (Great program/was a big money game last year), Cov Cath (Great program/BIG MONEY GAME) . . . . . Now--think about adding 2 more games to that mix. The exact same thing can be accomplished.

I find it very interesting that basically most people here attached Beechwood's decision completely on NCC's very recent success. Beechwood will still have to go through most of the teams that they have to now to win a state championship with 2 exceptions: NCC and Danville.

The funny thing is--if NCC is the big boy on the block now (which is basically what you guys are saying) THEN WHY DIDN'T THEY MOVE UP???????? I don't hear anyone questioning that decision.

Considering the draw of athletes that the Beechies have I would probably agree that they would be better served in 2A.

Single A schools should be schools like Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, Bracken Co, etc.

Beechwood probably has fewer boys than any of the schools mentioned. You are confusing success (with small numbers) with lack of success (with small numbers).

And before you pull the open enrollment card--you would be surprised how few of those kids have actually carried the load over the past few years. The truth of the matter is--96% of the kids in the program live in Fort Mitchell. And just because the past coach (and the current coach as well) was able to develop that talent--doesn't mean that they should go against schools with a higher enrollment count.

Wow . . someone making some sense . . . . refreshing!

To answer your question Toothpick . . . Beechwood will be fine in regard to numbers. The numbers for the past 10 years have dropped--and their is still a high level of expectation for success.

And--think about this--if kids were to move up--where are they going to go? (that isn't meant to sound rude--just lack of better words). Cov Cath? (will have to deal with Highlands--and vice versa in the 2nd round. Dixie? Same thing. Boone/Conner/Campbell/Ryle/Holmes . . . are going to be hard pressed to make it any further than the 3rd round.

The funny thing is--things really are not as different as people are trying to suggest.

Louisville Male has an easy district: Bullitt Central, Southern, Fern Creek. No longer in the same district With ST.X

Obviously PT outwest looks like a easy road, Mayfield looks to have a easier road in competition overall with Danville being gone but in their place will be Louisville HC and Beechwood so overall the only advantage would appear to be if they advance to the title game. I look for the Cards to add some hardware on a regular basis to their trophy case under this new system

Who were the five teams that asked to move up and were not allowed to?

I comletley disagree. BW has a new AD, and Head coach. There is no reason to jump into 2A. I think they need to stay where they are at for the next 3 or 4 years to see how and if this will effect the program, and then make a decision.
