Would you say Larry Allison as the coach? I am trying to think of who was most successful over there.

I believe you're correct. He was probably the most successful.

The same one at Campbellsville?

Yes it is......

Shelby County:

Mike Casey

Charles Hurt

Terry Davis

AJ Slaughter or Norris Beckley

Great list IMO

Was Larry Allison the last Deming/Robertson Co. coach to coach both the boys and girls basketball teams?

Nicholas Co.:

Ned Jennings---played at UK and on NCs only region champion team

Daniel Brown---led nation in scoring at Berea College, lights out shooter

Mike Hatton---best all-around athlete in NC history?

Steve Anderson---led NC in scoring until Daniel Brown

Dewayne Morton is deserving. Nice career at uofl and a cup of coffee in the nba

Yes, I forgot about Morton, he was a great player at Central. How about the all-time coach for Central? I don't have a name in mind. Can't recall who coached the great Central teams of the late 1960s and early 70s.

Great list as basketball only.

2 - 3 sport athletes that should be on any Newport list.

David Simpson (EKU)

Bobby Meyer (UC)

Simpson and Meyer both great 2-3 sport players. As a Holmes grad, the best 2-3 sport Newport player I recall is a guy named Jim Cutter. As a baseball player for Newport he hit like .600 or better two straight years and was drafted by the Expos. He ended up playing at NKU in college, owns a construction company in N. Ky. if I am not mistaken. He also was a very good football player and lettered in basketball for Newport.

Robert Graves was the coach of those teams, and he was an outstanding coach. But if you had to pick one coach for Central, it would have to be William Kean, who coached the Yellow Jackets prior to the integration of schools in Kentucky. His all-time record was 856-83, and won multiple state championships in the Kentucky High School Athletic League and multiple national championships. He is in the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. And he was the grandfather of Allan Houston.

OOOOOOHHHHHH THANK YOU! I definitely forgot about them. Wesley Cox is definitely top 5! Okay when you bring those in Mike isn't top 10. Let me revisit this list. Here's the top 10:

Darrell Griffith

Bobby Turner

Wesley Cox

Ralph Beard

Dallas Thornton

Winston Bennett

George Tinsley

Jason Osborne

GG Gordon

Henry Husky

Don't forget Henry Bacon. My brother tried to guard him once and it was not pretty (sorry, Bro.)

Interesting about William Kean, had never heard of him. Sounds like a great coach with 856 wins. I would wonder how the competition he coached against compared to the teams Central had to play under Graves in the 1960s and 1970s. Central was absolutely dominant at a time Kentucky high school basketball was loaded with Division I talent. Both great coaches in any case.

Where did Terry Sandfoss play D1??

Seems to me he played PG at Morehead in the late 60's. Not 100% sure.

Louisiana Tech

Thanks Can'tcoach. Forgot this school, did a Google search and stumbled into PCHS website that shares info on HOF alumni. Awesome read and site for bb junkies.

Gallatin County boys:

Joe Lowe

Rod Carlton

Jason White

Trent Maddox or Zach Jones or Taylor Jones

Gallatin County girls:

Dot Burke Perkins

Holly Roberts

Brooke Dossett

Hannah Dossett

DeWayne Webb on the boys side

If we're talking all sports, it's kinda tough to leave off (and I did on my original one) Nate Jones. He is playing well at the highest level of his sport.

I just thought we were talking basketball. My brain can't multi-task to include other sports. OVERLOAD!

Harrison County

Toke Coleman

Billy Custard

Tony Talbot

Coach Woody Crum

Got to put Phil Wagner here, went on to star at Georgia Tech after Rupp did not offer. Rupp had to hand Phil the MVP Trophy at the then premier East-West All Star game. No smiles from Adolph that night.
