There's no way someone can do both jobs efficiently.

 

It will either be unfair to one of the teams, the coach, or all of the above.

 

Coach Kelsch has the best interest of these kids in mind. Historically not a powerhouse, Robertson County (Deming to the old schoolers out there) has a proud tradition of community. I believe Robertson County is the smallest county in Kentucky and not necessarily on the beaten path.

 

They typically play hard and draw a pretty reasonable crowd, as there is not a lot to do in Robertson County other than play basketball.

 

They have an beautiful, fairly new school and gym, and their pre-game introduction rivals Rupp Arena. (I know Deuce, your not familiar with that, but it's pretty spectacular)

 

I don't think it will be easy, but he's the guy to do it if it's going down that way.

 

A school like this cannot afford to go without having teams...would be a much greater disservice and likely have some long lasting effects on the kids and the community.

Cant disagree with anything you said. Infact, might bring the school together even more. Always thought Deming/Robertson Co was one of the more tighter schools in the state.

Not doubting the coaches interests at all, but that is a lot of responsibility.

Agree with BirdBrain. Robertson County is the smallest county in Kentucky (2010 census population: 2282). Its county seat, Mount Olivet, had a population of 299 in 2010. But it has a nice new school (about 5 years old) and a really nice gym. I have been to a few games there, and have always been impressed with the crowds at the games and how hard/well the teams played in light of their small numbers. So if this is the best solution for keeping teams on the court, I have no problem with it and wish him the best.

Excellent choice for RC. Bottom line is he may be the best Coach in the 10th region girls or boys and he has been one of the most successful and he truly cares about his kids.

Don't know anything about the Girls squad, but the Boys Varsity are a scrappy young bunch, as is the Middle School boys. They may surprise in year or so.

Without a lot of bodies on both squads, I could see them not having many JV games and just doing boy/girl double headers. I know a college team that does just that.

Is Coach Kelsch married? If so, has he told his wife yet?

Probably as many boy/girl DHs as possible.

Don Irvine has done it once or twice at Burgin over the years.

Hope he has some good assistants. If so I could see practicing both teams at the same time or at least overlapping practice time.

Derrick Akal is doing the same thing at Harlan. Maybe they can schedule each other.

Rex Cooksey done this at Fairview. I'm sure Coach K can handle this for at least a season.
