June 13, 201610 yr How many mass shootings happen at a Bass Pro/Cabelas, NRA meetings, gun stores, gun shows, police stations? How many mass shootings happen at schools, movie theaters, colleges and gun free businesses? How many of the first list of places have as diverse a crowd as the second list?
June 13, 201610 yr The standard assumption by many is that someone (or multiple people) carrying is enough to change the outcome of these mass shootings. The reality is this may or may not be true. A good guy(s) with a gun isn't automatically making the situation better, and in some cases, untrained (which is the majority, as the vast majority have never been in active shooter situations) could make the situation even more dangerous. I can shoot targets in a controlled range all day...being able to take down a well armed bad guy who would be shooting back is a whole other story, especially in a crowded room. I'm all for gun ownership. But I don't believe a better and more armed society makes everyone safer.
June 13, 201610 yr Mixing guns and alcohol is a terrible idea. That's why I said "legally have a gun in a bar," meaning you are not allowed to have a drop of alcohol. I agree, mixing guns and alcohol is always a bad idea. If you are going to drink alcohol, you should never, under any circumstance, be handling a gun. Gun safety 101
June 13, 201610 yr Why is it always that either no one is armed, or that everyone and their brother is armed? Isn't there an in-between? Sure there is. It just seems to me that most people who clamor about having more people carrying have a very negative opinion of those who decide not to. That they're somehow part of the problem because they don't feel the need to carry.

If you are going to drink alcohol, you should never, under any circumstance, be handling a gun. Gun safety 101 How do you propose they police that?
June 13, 201610 yr How do you propose they police that? Harsher penalties for offenders, the same way the police those who mix alcohol with operating motor vehicles.
June 13, 201610 yr You are by law not allowed to carry a gun and drink, you would immediately lose your CCW if caught and face charges. FYI.
June 13, 201610 yr Harsher penalties for offenders, the same way the police those who mix alcohol with operating motor vehicles. Okay, but how do you even catch the offenders? You going to ask everybody in the bar if they are packing when you serve them a drink?
June 13, 201610 yr These threads always turn on their heads and the people who want to defend themselves against evil badguys get painted as part of the problem. Nothing could be father from the truth. If you want to throw apples at a guy with a gun don't worry, just proclaim your wishes if you are ever in that situation. Those that carry will wait till you get the demise of your choice and then they will defend themselves and family. But don't you dare depend on those who are willing to defend themselves to defend you if you despise them as much as the badguys. People that carry are not part of the problem. People that want to do nothing are ! Can I "Like" this a thousand times?
June 13, 201610 yr Harsher penalties for offenders, the same way the police those who mix alcohol with operating motor vehicles. So is the bar going to have to go up to every patron and see if they're carrying, and if so, make sure they aren't drinking too? Will there need to be officers with breathalyzers present at all bars to randomly test those who are carrying?
June 13, 201610 yr Okay, but how do you even catch the offenders? You going to ask everybody in the bar if they are packing when you serve them a drink? If a patron uses his weapon in a bar, he is breathalyzed. If a patron is arrested in a bar for any alcohol related incident, or there is reason to believe that a patron is intoxicated whilst carrying a firearm, the charges are to be escalated.
June 13, 201610 yr Is it unrealistic because it wouldn't prevent a shooter from killing more people, or is it unrealistic because it would be an extremely expensive service, that would ideally never be utilized? I think it is the cost of having a highly trained/ skilled guard on site, of a location that is technically a "gun free zone" is what prevents most bars from doing this. The sign says the establishment is gun free, so why would anyone with a gun go in there, right? Why pay for excessive guards when a sign keeps all the guns out? The way you circumvent the high cost of having security guards, is to remove bars from the gun free zone list, thus enabling the ability to legally have a gun in the bar. I would imagine the latter. In my opinion, it isn't plausible to expect establishments to hire multiple highly trained individuals to handle terrorist attacks because of cost. If you fear for your life going to a bar/club (or as others have mentioned, even BW3's on a busy night during a UK game) then stay home. It just doesn't seem like a realistic solution to me. I see what you're saying about removing them from a gun free zone, but if that were the case, I'd be visiting a lot less places.

Will there need to be officers with breathalyzers present at all bars to randomly test those who are carrying? Do polices officers stop and check every driver to make sure they haven't been drinking?
June 13, 201610 yr Do polices officers stop and check every driver to make sure they haven't been drinking? Anyone they find suspicious of it. So every bar will need to have an officer on the scene to test anyone they suspect of having a drink that's also carrying? Not feasible.
