It was kind of strange the other night seeing the Macke girl dressed in a Holy Cross Uniform and sitting on the Varsity bench when just a few short months ago she was practicing and trying out for Highlands. Anybody know why she left Highlands in the 1st place? No big deal and shouldn't be brought up but it just seemed out of place to me. Thought for sure she would of been one of those great PG to pass through Jamie's system. Oh well.

 

My daughter played Softball with the Macke girl and she was indeed a fine little player. Though I think she wasn't as fully committed as some, I think she could of turned out to be a pretty good Softball player if she would of dove in Head 1st....No pun intended!

LaLa might live down the street but Macke doesn't and where are the others coming from and why are they all getting there now and what part of the matrix is that.......these might be the questions that are being asked now and why some are scratching their heads about the merits of being there at HC instead of somewhere else (specifically where they were originally headed) Shopping for sports opportunity is a slippery slope............

Personally I don't care who plays when, where, why; I only hope the adults aren't screwing it up for the kids and this path does have that potential.

When are the finals?

Geez a game highlight thread turns into a recruitment thread. That's never happened on here. I just wasted 15 minutes and found out very little about the actual game. Oh well it's only time.

I miss that there is no Kentucky Post or Cincinnati Enquirer to read about games anymore, BGP is the only thing to fill that void and IMO it gets hijacked too often.

 

In this game, Homy Cross led most of the game until the last two minutes, and the last quarter was basically decided because Holy Cross couldn't score, and probably had 11 or 12 possessions come up empty either as a result of missed shots or turnovers, and Highlands made a lot of free throws. Highlands scored 30 points in the second half, and I would guess that 18 or 19 of them were on free throws. I thought Highlands most consistent offensive player was Zoe Barth, who takes the ball to the basket effectively and with authority, even over holy cross's two young big girls, Chames and Thomas. It seemed to me that highlands picked up its intensity after Haley Coffey made a three in the third quarter to put them up by two, and I thought they defended very well and aggressively in the fourth quarter.

 

For holy cross, they lost because they couldn't score, including woeful free-throw shooting, and that marked the end of the career of Dajah McClendon, A great career with individual accomplishment and the state championship ring. Doesn't get much better than that.

 

Looking forward, Highlands three seniors (Adler, Coffey and Leigh) move on to fight another day, looking for the first regional championship under Coach Richey. The Indians look forward to next year, including the return of talented guards Beal and Tucker, with a slew of other very young and talented players, including 6'4" 7th grader Sidney Thomas and 6'1" Milaysia Chames, both of whom progressed during this year. Highlands has a very strong freshman class, though, including Barth, so I think you can expect to see those two schools competing for regionals for the next few years at least.

Thank you for saying what everyone else was thinking, how many girls of her AAU team moved with her like LaLa. I agree she will be a good player, but I didn't realize that HC had a Jr High. I thought they were HS only.

She saw action in the game on Monday. Both of these girls are big and to me they need to get to a speed and agility guy/gal and work on getting themselves quicker. Still young and they have what you cannot teach. Question is how hard you want to work to make yourself the best player you can be.

Agreed. Really nice hands and touch around the basket. IF she gets help in the areas you mention, I think she can almost write her ticket to wherever she wants to go. IF she's willing to put in the work and time off the court.

Why won't people just let the KHSAA investigation play out regarding Holy Cross and leave it at that. Their season is over. They are all good people. Let it be. The rules they broke aren't serious enough to warrant anything more than a warning and a fine.

 

RCC9 seems to have pretty solid information. There are texts, social media posts, and pictures which all suggest aggressive recruiting of players. Other programs do it too. So let the investigation play out and congratulate the girls on a fine season. Good job Highlands.

There is a grade school next door, but the grade school is affiliated with the parish and the high school independent if I remember right. The grade school is small, but I was told some of the higher level students take a few classes at the high school even though they are officially affiliated.

I would expect a KHSAA ruling in this case that is consistent with the rulings they have made in boys basketball on mid and late season transfers.
