Happy for the Birds! They move on. The first half they played a little like the first half of the season and the second half, they played like the end of the season. They cannot keep going back and forth if they want to reach their goal. But they won!

As for the game, it was a nail biter throughout. Especially when you know it can be your daughter's last bball game ever. It's hard to watch as a parent. I'm sure I was more nervous than her! HC played well and are always tough. They controlled most of the game, especially in the first half. They hit everything in the first half and it looked like it was going to be a long night. The Birds kept fighting and it paid off tonight. I thought Adler, Barth and Coffey did everything in their power to keep them in the game for 3 quarters. Then Leigh came to the party and took over the 4th qtr... I hope she's not fashionably late on Saturday!!! LOL! At the end of the day, its the time of the year to survive and advance.

It's a little bitter sweet for me because a great player's high school career came to an end tonight. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Deja McClendon play this game since about the 3rd grade. What a wonderful career she's had and has been an impact player in the 9th region for the last 5 years. Great player with a lot of heart. I love watching her play and the region will miss her. I won't miss being nervous as a rattlesnake every time my daughter had the ball and McClendon was on her. That I can do without. But Deja has left her legacy on this region and it's sad to see her go. Good Luck Ms McClendon!

Great post @RCC9

Highlands fights back and moves on to the next round.

Guess softball and football not starting huh? Another classic post by someone that maybe knows one girl on the team if that. Take your hatred and spew it somewhere else.

It baffles me why you continuously reference the first half of the season when talking about Highlands playing poorly. They did start out 11-2 with quality wins over Scott, Conner, Notre Dame and a last second loss to Sacred Heart. They also won the Conner Holiday Tourney.

How about the non call late in the game when Chames "crashed" the boards and I mean crashed them with no foul called and a Highlands player laying on the floor. Highlands player I was most impressed with was Barth. Seemed she was the only one that would drive the ball to the hole and challenge the big girls of HC. Coffey very solid at the point and not many turnovers which is what you want this time of year.

I for one do not like the automatic rotation of players. At this time of year, I am going with my best because there is no tomorrow.

Okay, middle of the season. Whatever you want to call it. Just different than now. That better?

Frosh Zoie Barth was strong and effective early. She and Coffey kept the game close through the first half. These two also created havoc defensively to set the tone in the second half. Leigh finally showed up late and did a great job playing stronger and making FT. She is the key for them getting past Sat. Seniors stepped up.....

Must mention the strong Defensive effort from Adler in 2nd as she forced McClendon right and used her length to keep her from getting strong drives. HHS got solid minutes from everyone, good effort.

HC did a nice job controlling pace of game in first half but let HHS change it in the 2nd. McClendon couldn't get shots to fall in lane and not enough outlets to go to other than the threes from #4 that kept them in game until they had to foul at finish.

Game was fun to watch ..... Good luck to Birds on Sat.

Bluebirds rally to beat defending champs

Congrats to Highlands on the win!

And way to go Leigh, Coffey and Adler! I know there are other lady Birds to give a shout out to, but I love those Seniors! Great young ladies and families that have spent a TON of time in gyms. Happy to see them get some more. Lol.

Keep working Birds!

Not many HC posters toniggt, just saying.

Congrats to the Birds---always great coaching from their staff.

Most high school homer radio announcers never think their teams foul, but I will give credit to CovCath radio guys Mark Wehry and Rich Maile as they call a good and fair game. And this is coming from someone that doesn't root for CovCath.

"Sporadically" might be the issue. referring to original post by "sentinel"...

Feel like the HC announcers do a great job of presenting a fair and unbiased view. All are human...pretty sure you can tell which side of the fence even Marty Brennaman's loyalties lie. Nobody's immune to some emotion-not even CCH.

Kudos to all the broadcasters giving their endless time and talent...it's much appreciated from this end.

And the only person congratulating a top notch senior for Holy Cross is Highlands fan RCC9. Kudos to him for recognizing McClendon, a state champion and excellent player who deserves praise and recognition for a great career.
