Also, what does HC have coming back next year? I know they have a huge 7th grader and Chames who will likely be Twin Towers.

 

Surely at some point Pete Mitchell will stop hugging that freshman trophy, re-emerge from the trophy room and help us all out with his insights.

 

That is one thing I will give UK#1fan props on. When his team goes down, he is still here and takes what comes back at him.

Holy Cross has some serious Bigs that will be around for quite some time. Holy Cross is going to be very good!

Agreed, appeared to be an offense to defense sub where the girl being subbed out didn't hear or it wasn't communicated clearly. Not an excuse by any means, but the reason I think it was missed was that Highlands had their 5 spread across the court pretty much from FT line to FT line and when the ball was inbounded and movement started to occur, I could see how compartmentalizing officials may miss that extra girl. Not an excuse, they should have gotten the count right before the inbounds, but that's my theory.

 

If I can get the video posted, we will see that they had 6 on the floor when HC was taking the ball out (their possession) under their own basket. They got the ball in (with 6om the floor) and promptly threw it out of bounds turning it over to HHS under the HC basket. The HC girls turned to play defense with the same 6 (I think ) that were on the floor the previous play when HC was inbounding.

HC started out good played a great game for 4 quarters with no calls going there way. (I'll get to that in a minute.) HC played good enough to win, Highlands being battle tested for years now with there strong senior leadership fought just as hard and came out on top moving on! Like majority say survive and advance tourney time. Congrats to all HC seniors on fantastic high school careers not many kids can say they've accomplished what you guys have! Good luck for those who go play at the next level and to those who take on other paths it's been a blast watching you guys play and represent your school, community, and fans with class! To the returning underclass men you see what's expected now get to work in the off season and continue building off the foundation of success these graduating seniors have built!

 

As for those on here bashing the HC radio guys for the way they call the games. These guys are top notch class acts not only for HC but for the entire basketball community they do you as well as me on some nights by broadcasting these games so those who can't be there can listen in and follow along the game! As for the "homer" comments these guys are far from homers when broadcasting a game! They call it how they see it nothing more nothing less! As for the officiating last night like my avatar name states, WOW! My question is how on earth did this crew have HC last year in the sweet 16 tournament? These same officials who openly admitted and apologized they tried to take the games away from HC? How can Barth from Highlands get a rebound dive to the free throw line never losing possession of the ball and it not be called as a walk? How can an official laugh and giggle every time he makes a call against HC at the scores table? How can a player play basketball when she stands flat footed hands straight up in the air and gets called for a foul every possession down the floor? I understand officials want players to know they have control of the game but call it fair! There was multiple times where these same officials called fouls on players who were not even on the same end of the floor against both teams! I by no means am saying these officials are the reason for the loss Highlands played a very composed patient game and did what they had to do to win, but holy moly these officials where bad. Also as people requested to hear from an HC fan about the 6 girls on the floor. Yes HC had 6 girls on the floor yes it went unnoticed by these horrific officiating crew yes it should have been caught and called as a technical like the rule reads! That being said most of you who are stating "karma" and that HC was trying to "cheat" and purposely did this quit your making yourselves look/sound dumb! HC did not intentionally put 6 girls on the floor to gain an advantage if they did do you think coach would reach out and grab a player off the floor? No he would leave her out there and gain the advantage you guys say he was trying to accomplish. Now enough of my rant lady blue birds go shock the world not many giving you guys let alone anyone a shot to beat Ryle nor Holmes in this regional tourney. Like HC last year stay poised play your game and let your natural talent bring the game to you it can and has been done (HC team last year.)

Q, there is no defense from anyone's perspective. Holy Cross deserved a technical for having six players on the floor. How the referees missed it is a mystery. Having said that, however, it is also ridiculous to infer or imply any deceptive or deceitful intent. It was obviously a mistake that six Holy Cross players were on the floor, and Coach Murphy tried to call a timeout as soon as he realized it. They still deserved a "T" but to suggest that it was some kind of orchestrated play is ludicrous.

 

As I said in the only posts I have put up about the regional, I am happy for the seniors at HHS who have had long productive careers (Coffey, Leigh and Adler), that they have the chance to move on and perhaps play in the state tournament. I wanted to see HC win obviously, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate both what the girls at HHS have accomplished and the chance to play under the bright lights of the state tournament. I thought the three pointer by Haley was the most important play of the game, it seemed like the momentum shifted and, even though the lead changed hands a couple more times after that, it seemed like the energy on the HHS bench changed at that point.

 

I avoid getting into a quarrel over officiating. I have been around long enough and have literally and figuratively been on both sides of this one, so I understand that perspective changes perception. I thought they called some cheap fouls on Chames, some HHS voices think they didn't call enough. It is what it is, silly to argue about that IMO.

 

The only thing I take issue with is the suggestion or out right expression that Holy Cross or it's coaches have done anything wrong to bring players to the school. I think I know both the facts and the allegations as well as anyone on this site, and it is a very small audience of people that make the allegations, most of whom are completely ignorant of the facts, that do so in an attempt to (and I admit I am drawing some inferences here) marginalize the success that Holy Cross has had or may have in the future. For example, it is a shame, and will be a shame in the future, if Laylay Chames is not recognized as the unique talent that she is because somebody tries to diminish her achievements with whispers of "recruiting". She has always lived right down the street from Holy Cross and has all kinds of connections to the school. She is where she belongs - nothing untoward about it at all - but that is not the popular narrative, at least in the small world of BGP.

 

I find it very unfortunate that kids like Laylay, or adults like the coaches at Holy Cross, who are doing the right things for the right reasons, have to put up with the things they do because they are successful.

 

I am not that kind of guy. I applaud HHS' success and wish them well moving forward ... Although I must say that I am also a fan of Ryle point guard Maddie Scherr, and want to see her do well also.

Maybe it's been hush hush because of some reasons I won't go into on here. But I'll eventually tell all. Yes, maybe even the lil HR story!! And for those that say we (some of us) don't know the facts, well I'll say then you have no idea what we know and the first hand accounts we have. Relax. A few of us asked how it's possible. He put up a clip giving us a visual. No harm done.

Anything is possible. But I trust my sources, which are very good. And I can't get back into it because "there are eyes everywhere!" Lol!

 

But there is proof, you don't have to go much further than social media for that at a minimal level. And I know people very close to the HC program that are not happy with what's going on. So from the inside perspective, they know. In fact, one person I worked with said, "l can't believe it's taken this long!"

I already said it was an innocent mistake. I NEVER tried to say anything was wrong except they sent too many out ther. I've done it as a coach.
