Second biggest Rivalry in the regular season?

Featured Replies

Not being a butt here, but explain to me how X and T is the biggest rivalry? What because of media coverage? Attendance? A rivalry is as big as you make it, and to be honest I want to know outside of X and T alumni, fans, louisville media, and parents, how many people care about this "so-called" biggest game in the state?

IMO a rivalry is what you make it. Made up for different reasons whether it be how many times played, traditionally evenly matched teams, county showdowns, city showdowns, etc.

I don't have a dog in the fight and I guess if you look at it emotion wise it could be any city/county or neighborhood brawl. But if you think any other rivalry is going to fill up a major college stadium for a game you're fooling yourself. The fact is Louisville is the biggest city in the state and St. X and Trinity are the two baddest boys on the block--everyone wants to see them fight. I don't think this one is even up for debate. To do otherwise would be like comparing the EKU-WKU rivalry to the UK-UL rivalry, the kids may care just as much, but in general it isn't noticed as much.

I've never been to an X vs. T game, and I ALWAYS hear about what I'm missing out on. It isn't a game so much as it is an EVENT in Louisville. I can tell you that even at the Male-Manual game you get people from out of state, whether alumni or family or just looking to see some historical teams play football. I imagine it's like that with X and T, but a much bigger scale.

Good Summation. :thumb:

I know it does not get alot of attention statewide...but the Mayfield-Graves County rivalry has been a very intense city/county rivalry since its inception. The attendance is usually around 10,000 in the stadium and another couple hundred on the outside looking in as the gates have to be closed due to the fire marshall closing the gates.

CovCath - Highlands in NKY. Always a hard hitting game with playoff implications.

Yeah, I was gonna mention this game, but it just doesn't have the history that Mayfield and Paducah Tilghman has.

You should start a new thread telling all of us that aren't in the know some of those stories that you mentioned.

I wouldn't mind reading about them.

Ok, actually my wife wrote wrote an article about this several years ago, I will see if I can dig it up and share it on this website.

The Boarder War: Bellevue vs Dayton

I am going to have to call shenanigans on 10,000 people. How many does War Memorial hold? To give you a reference, Roy Stewart (Murray State) holds 16,000; War Memorial is not even close to half the size of Roy Stewart Stadium. None-the-less, still a good rivalry.

I would say the Tilghman/Mayfield is a solid #2 choice for the state.

St.X vs. Male is always huge and very well attended.

Locally yes, but I wouldn't rank it as a top rivalry since they are in different classes and thus no post-season matchups possible.

That is why Danville/Boyle would not rank as high here. HHS usually plays CovCath twice. The last regular season game with huge playoff implications and then in the playoffs, loser (usually Covcath:D ) goes home.

Mayfield vs. Tilghman.........I can't think of any bigger rivalry in Region 1...hands down the best!!!
