I would have no argument whatsoever with Austin Crawford being the POY.

 

In the big man discussion I'm proud that Jackson Crawford is in a serious discussion between he and Matt Wilson at this stage of the game. Both are really good big men. The Camels camp will espouse Wilson and the Brossart camp will promote Crawford.

 

Jackson has come strides this year while Wilson has been a major force for the past few years and has a name recognition edge. Whatever, they are both really good basketball players and have bright futures in the game.

Isn't that what defines a POY? A kid that makes his respective team better, take them out of the mix and where is that team?

 

Take any of these kids off their team and the TEAM would not be as good. A couple of years ago Brossart was rolling along at 19-1 until their guard, Jake Jennings, broke his hand and was out for several weeks. He came back less than 100% and they finished that season 23-5 with a loss to Camp co. in the district (whom they had beaten by 19 earlier) and a first round regional loss to MoCo. They were never the same without him.

His name was never mentioned as all region, POY, didn't even make NKAC first or second team (did win defensive player of the year). He had several other good players on that same team.

But Not many will disagree that losing him probably cost Brossart a nice little run in the post season.

On a good team it takes 5-8 good players to win, not just one superstar.

I get what you are saying @TAC, but the POY award is an individual award and lets be honest a very statistic driven award. Not disagreeing with what your are saying just putting a different spin on it.

 

I agree it takes more than one superstar player to make up a good team, but POY is not a team award. Therefore IMHO it should go to the best overall player that given year reguardless of what team they are on. There are 5-7 players in the 10th this year deserving of the accolade. Im just glad I don't have to decide who it is. :lol2:

I say there should be a POY award and a MVP award. Both have different meanings. POY is simply the best player in the region and MVP is who is the most valuable to their respective teams. I like using the "take ___ off of their team and how good are they?" But that's just my opinion.

I agree got to pick someone. I was just saying lots of kids, just not POY candidates make a team better and the team would be nowhere without them.

I'm going to be a homer in this thread too as I bring it back from a three day break. I've got to say Connor Maddox deserves mention. He is a tireless worker that constantly works on his game that has evolved over his career. He used to be that guy from Augusta that shoots all the threes. He's now the one that defenses key on each night that's dangerous from anywhere. He doesn't put up gaudy numbers every game but he's there when the team needs him to hit a big shot and he's done that several times this season. He is not the team's defensive stopper but has improved that part of his game as well. He is currently averaging 22ppg and shooting 84% from the charity stripe. And the Panthers are 16-6. He'll be the first to tell you he hasn't or couldn't do this on his own, the team concept has made the Panthers the team they are today but his numbers deserve a look and consideration.

That tireless work you mentioned definitely has paid dividends in the fact that his game has definitely developed and progressed as the years have went by.

This is what leads to 4 pages of discussion. There is no defined criteria. My memory tells me that POY is not awarded at the 10th Region banquet (All Region & HM).

On the girls page it says the POY is a senior, if this is true the award is Matt Wilsons'.

He deserves as much consideration as anyone else mentioned in this thread IMHO. If there was a most "transformed award" he'd win that hands down. As Quagmire stated he went from being a three point shooter (and maker) to a great all around basketball player who plays all facets of the game......
