I understand since only 3 were selected...but this kid has 1st teamer all over him

 

 

Maleek Lawrence- HM DLine?

I am sorry but there is no way he slides past 2nd Team.

 

 

Devante Colton- 3rd Team LB?

Argue for 1st Team for sure

 

Sakima Opsal- HM DB?

Possibly the best Safety in run support in the State... by far the best Defensive Player on Tates Creek and probably saved no less than 7 TD's for hem with open field tackles

 

Aaron Duncan- HM LB?

Cant see him dropping below 2nd Team let alone 3rd

 

No Cal Lewellyn or Clay Davis at DB?

Honroable Mention minimum

**I see Davis as a HM LB now**

 

 

 

These are the ones who stand out to.. Defense is nowhere near as well done as the Offense

 

 

Overall

 

Offense= B+ or A-

Defense= C-

Try reading all of the teams. He's second team at defensive back.

 

At the time of the post the defense wasn't released. Why don't you try reading all of my post where I said I'd wait to see the defense.

Class of 2015 was loaded with college talent...based on the 1st team selections, not sure 2016 will be as loaded.

Keep in mind, this is voted on by the coaches across the state. They make these determinations based on film they see and games they see certain players. IF a kid doesn't stand out in those few instances, then they usually don't garner a vote. Coaches also swap players for votes to get their kids on the list. Also keep in mind, most of you are like the coaches, you don't see many games outside your region of the state. Fans have bias...so do coaches. I know of several kids that are on the list because of their dad's being coaches...nothing wrong with it in my book. It is what it is. Congrats to all the kids that made the teams! This will mean something to those kids. It usually doesn't correlate to college recruiting, colleges don't concern themselves with stats either. Height, weight, 40, look test, and camp performances are what get your scholarship solidified, not newspaper clips. LOL

Another Scott County kid..Trey Binder at DL

 

With respect DL was the easiest spot to pick an All-State team..you had three no brainers....

 

Unfortunately Binder was not one of those three.

 

FWIW, Wilde was one of those three no brainers.

I watched him play 13 games this year and would put him up against any D-lineman in the state.

 

You mention that he only had 30 tackles… 25 of those came in the last six games when he was a starter on defense. The other 7 games, Trey started at offensive guard, playing defense in sparingly substitution situations.

 

You mentioned Wilde as a no-brainer. His numbers were 60 tackles in 14 games. Not a huge difference when you consider the amount of snaps he played on the defensive side compared to Binder's.

 

Both kids deserve a hand for what they did this year, but to completely dismiss Trey Binder as an all-state candidate based on his stats, is misleading and wrong, IMO.

Coach Wolfe must be a great coach...15-0 on the season, 6A State Champion, and 7 on 7 National Champion and all that with no All State first teamers...

Just to put my biased hat on:

- Though I personally struggle to see how a couple players were selected over Austin Dotson (and for that matter Jedrick Willis) for 1st team OL...I can live with 2nd Team

 

- G Jordan Scott is one of the most blatant misses on Offense. Easily a Top 10-15 Lineman in the State.

 

- No issue with where the other Belfry guys landed that were selected. Betley at 3rd Team, Willis HM at HB, Wellman HM at P.

 

- First Team All-State WR JJ Ogbogu deserved his spot... but neither of the guys who held him to a season low 2 catches for 33 yards even garnered HM. Woolum or Varney either one deserved that acclaim.

 

- I would bump Pugh up to 2nd Team RB.

The immediate offense omissions I see are QB Cameron Racke of Simon Kenton and Tanner Morgan of Ryle.

That is exactly why I do not think Binder should have been selected over many of these other guys.

 

If he got a 1st team pick at Guard where he started all year I could see it...but giving it to him based off starting only six games at DT when other kids have made an entire body of work based off two or three years in my mind should hold water.

 

Awarding him the honor for average essentially 4 tackles per game over a 6 game stretch (which Scott County's Defense allowed over 30 points in half of those games) is not enough to leapfrog some of the names behind him who averaged over 7 or 8 tackles per game and had double digit sack totals.
