Did Male play against Simon Kenton? Just saying if all of the coaches(Esp JC coaches) in KY actually voted for the best players they've seen maybe we'd have a more accurate All State team, that's all. Most of the states coaches didn't bother to cast a vote according to Jason Frakes, that's a shame.

No they did not play Simon Kenton, but I would bet that they saw more than one film of them as they were preparing to play Lafayette. Agree that it is a shame that coaches cannot take 15 minutes out of there day to cast a ballot.

This is just for fun but I'd take Male Coach Wolfe's All State team plus any guys he wants to replace on there w/ his players(Zach Smith for sure who easily is one of the best players in the state, shocked he wasn't 1st team) & spot the CJ team 14 points, all day long! Lol.... Any takers?!

This ballot shows the regional bias involved in the voting. His whole team is kids from Louisville or for Lafayette who they just happened to play in the 6A title game. I'm not mad at him at all either. I do think this ballot shows us all how hard it is for all of the coaches to choose an All State Team that will make everyone happy. It's impossible.

When we watch film of the team we're going to play, 100% of the time and effort (many hours of our weekend which also must include grading our own players' most recent game) goes into watching the team we're going to play. 0% goes into watching the team they are playing.

 

There are only 48 hours to get all our self-grading and scouting report on next opponent done...why would I spend time trying to see who is good on some team we'll never see?

Yes, "self-grading" is us watching each play of our own players from the previous Friday's game. Takes a lot of our Saturdays...Saturday night and Sunday more for watching the next team we are to play.

 

I certainly don't think all coaches do things the way our staff does. But even if they don't, I'd still wager that they don't spend much time 'just watching' both teams they get scout film on. Especially on week 14 when there's no chance whatsoever you'd play any other team but the one you play next.

Thanks, Pikevillefan. Was tough not to vote for Coach Mac for overall COY, but what Smith (and Wolfe) did with their team's defenses all year holding opponents to less than a score a game was impossible to vote against.
