Yep! Glad to see him make the cut. Kid works incredibly hard, and his progression from Freshman to Senior year was AMAZING!

Any All-State list without those three on the DL is simply incorrect

Yes you are correct on that one. 46/46 on PAT's and 11 Field Goals with a long of 46. Enough said.

Not too awful at DL... they got 2/3 of the locks but missed Lawrence.

 

Hornbuckle is a solid pick.

 

Binder and his 30 tackles should not be in over Lawrence of NewCath though

Holbrook is not a surprise at all if you have seen him play this year. The kid is everything you want in a football player if he were 2 inches taller he would have multiple big time offers and he had to share a backfield with two other 1000 yard rushers. I can guarantee you Holbrook is a top 3 RB in the state.

 

So, sharing a backfield with two other 1000 yard rushers and he makes 1st team? No. This is definitely a big surprise. And I mean no offense, but he is not a top 3 RB in the state. I'm sure he's a very good back, but not top 3.

There are a lot of backs that if "they were 3 inches taller", or "If they ran a 4.5 40", or "if they played for ____________ team" you could say the same things about.

 

No doubt Holbrook is an excellent HS back, but to select him over names like:

Carothers, Bowling Green

Alstatt, Lafayette

Pugh, Pikeville

Smith, NCC

Humfleet, Bell Co

Powell, Simon Kenton

All State Worthy? Most Likely

 

All-State 1st team Worthy? That is debatable

Good player..but not a name I expected to see as a 1st teamer

 

Great story though and happy for the kid

Because I know people will ask:

 

The C-J All-State team is based on a vote of coaches. Every coach in the state receives a ballot. We got 126 ballots back.

 

Do we publish the team based exactly on vote totals? No. But I'd say it's about 90 percent of what we use.

I will say it again he is a top 3 RB in the state. Morehead has offered, Has preferred walk on to UK, and will have more offers here soon. The comment about the other two 1000 yards rushers was made to say that his numbers would have been even better if he didn't have to share the ball as much. The only other RB that I think deserves to be 1st team is Pugh. Ask anybody who has seen the kid live and in person he definitely deserves to be 1st team.

The bad part about the team is that people will criticize kids they have never seen play. There is a very thin line separating alot of these kids. They all should be very proud of the recognition.

Another one that few can debate...

 

The CJ list by and large has been pretty solid over the entirety of the list...just seems there is a "where did he come from" at each position group where a guy from way off the radar takes a spot where there seems to be 3-4 guys who are seemingly more clear cut choices.

 

By and large though...as of now 1st Team for the most part is pretty solid
