Male ranked over T & X: let the fur start flying!

Featured Replies

Two, Male's resume is not impressive based upon close wins and losses, they barely beat a pretty good PRP team, that got trounced in the playoffs, then barely beat Manual, barely beat Hop-Town, etc.....

Trinity beat that Manual team by one point more than Male did. The Male team also had the same number of losses you did. 2 losses by a combined 7 points for Male, 2 losses by a combined 36 points. The Hoptown team is the only school other than St. X that held BG to single digits. You also say "they barely beat a pretty good PRP team." What does that make Male if they beat a "pretty good team." The JH team that "trounced" PRP also took out Male and almost St. X.

I don't think you're giving Male enough credit. Also, is it that big of a deal, you're ranked 15th in the country. If you think you should be #1 in AAAA then the team will have to prove it on the field.

There are decent arguments for both teams to be #1, but I agree with BuddyBW that, at the beginning of the season, Male has the strongest case. With about 7 starters back on offense and 9 back on defense, the Bulldogs return the most by far of any of the Big 3. When you also add Justin Green to the mix, who is returning after missing virtually all of last season with a serious injury, you are adding one of the fastest players in Kentucky. Moreover, for the first time in at least four years, Male will have good size and experience on their OL and DL, led by big 3-year starter Sam Webb (6-5, 300). Beaumont (RB/WR/DB) and Heyman (TE/LB/DE/S) will definitely be two of the best players in Kentucky.

It's close, but I think Male deserves this preseason nod.

Ox: Great insight. What 2 positions are not coming back on Male's defense?

I also would like to say that adding Justin Green is like adding another Beaumont to the Male offense. I have seen Green versus Flynn and Duttons in competition and Green is faster and quicker. I know Flynn and Dutton's run track but as of 2 years ago, Green was faster. If you add Green to the Male offense, more talent is on the side of Male. Trinity has Petrino but only Flynn has proven it at the varsity level.

One other point is Petrino put those numbers up with Donnell and Barnett in the backfield as threats, I still don't know who is going to run the ball for Trinity. Didn't Trinity lose their junior running back?

Brandyn Brown (DB/RB/WR), Marcus Hughes (LB/FB), Brian Anderson (QB), and Nathan Overall (WR) are the major losses for the Bulldogs from last year. Corey Gainey looked good in the 7-on-7 games as a replacement at QB for the graduated Anderson. I am not positive, but I think that the placekicker, Richard Fangman, also graduated.

I am not sure which junior RB for the pebbles you are referencing, but I have heard that an expected returning starting LB or DT (?) may not be playing this year.

Trinity didn't lose any RBs from last years team except due to graduation. The Rocks had a LB decide to leave the team for personal reasons that involved a move. Whats the word on the junior to be O-lineman that left the Tigers?

Rock-is the Switzer kid still around for T? Can't remember if he graduated or not. If he's still playing, I'm assuming he's a senior this year? Is he getting any looks if he's still there? If not, where did he go?

thanks

Graham Switzer injured his ACL in a preseason scrimmage (against LexCath, I believe) and never played a down last year. He is a big, fast kid and his loss, as well as injuries to other DLmen, really put T behind the 8-ball on that side of the line last season. He has graduated. I am not certain but I don't think he will playing ball in college.

Fangman did graduate, as did linebacker Matt Payton. Those two and the ones you mentioned above were the major impact players that Male lost to graduation. Having Green back will be a major boost--he is a very good defensive back.

Zach Slaton was a starter on JV last year. Did he show up at Trinity? He wasn't at preseason workouts or weighlifting for X or T.

So who is running the ball for Trinity this year?

So the Senior defensive back is replaced by Justin Green and they lose 2 LB's. I gotta give the nod to the 9 returning starters and a year better Beaumont for the preseason #1.

Run the ball? Whats that?

All kidding aside The Rocks have some big shoes to fill but there are a couple of seniors showing promise as well as two very good looking sophs. I think the QB will run the ball a good bit also. If you remember Brian ran the ball quite a bit in 2003.

T's running game will be fine...graduation didn't hurt rb that much..

Switzer is at UK, but I'm not sure about FB. The LB "moved".

We lost BOTH of our "starting" running backs.

Yes, both t's 05' running backs graduated and the new running backs will do just fine behind a larger O line. IMO - there is more speed at the WR spot than last year, the Duttons can run with the best of them (7 on 7 proved it). GO ROCKS.....
