A question about gun control

Featured Replies

I saw someone earlier in the year post a pic of guns on a bed in Facebook in a Buy Sell Trade group. They gave the address of the motel they were at and the prices of the guns. I was told such sales are perfectly legal.
They are. Heck this weekend there's a gun show advertised on a giant billboard on 65. I love those things, but it's not too difficult to get a gun there. It's just not.

I'm certainly with you on that one. To be honest I'm surprised such a process has never been implemented. Getting verified by an FFL is a pretty painless and simple process. Not sure why the average Joe couldn't do the same as a federal firearm licensee, all it takes is a phone calland the buyers information.

I think privacy issues are the biggest reason. If anyone can do it then you have a real chance for some to misuse the ability to do background checks, all they would need would be some very basic info on someone.

They could easily put a process in place where the buyer and private seller could go to any firearms dealer and have them verify the info and call in to NICS to get an approval. I'm sure there would be a fee involved with this process as the dealers wouldn't want to do it for free.

One thing that we have done when selling any guns privately we record the DL# and CCDW#(if they have one) of anyone we sell a gun to. That way if a gun we have purchased gets tracked to us we know where it went next if we sell it or trade it.

An organized gun show doesn't bother me nearly as much as someone who rents a room in a run down motel at an exit on the WK.

My sister bought a gun for her then husband and it was registered in her name. They got divorced and he took it with him, and gave it to his new stepson. Then the ex husband died. So, the gun registered in my sisters name now belongs to a teenage boy she barely knows. We went to the County Clerk and asked how she could transfer it out of her name, because she doesn't want to be responsible if anything happens with that gun. They told her not to worry about it.

Yeah, it wasn't technically registered to her. She had to fill out the paperwork because she bought it. If the ATF ever knocks on her door asking about the gun all she has to say is exactly what you just said. They'll go to Step-son and see if he can produce the gun or tell them where it went from him.

FWIW County Clerk has nothing to do with Firearms

I find that unsettling, myself.

Which part?

Where does she live that she had to register it?

I think she is talking about the 4473 that you fill out anytime you purchase a gun. I'd say over the years I've had dozens of people (mostly from divorce) come in and want us to change the name on the form years later because they no longer had the gun.

dont we already have this mechanism with cars? Plus in Kentucky we have had made room in the County Clerk's day since they don't have to do marriage licenses anymore.

Register sales from this point with a chance to do a private citizen background check.

There have been 424 total "mass shooting" casualties in the ENTIRE US during the last SEVEN YEARS of Obama's presidency. Just this year--in the city of Paris ALONE--there have been 508 such casualties. Gun control and all! Sometimes what we are told by our leaders isn't true. Well, almost always now.

.....and two radical Muslim related. Chattanooga and San Bernadino

Should have posted this after your question and closed the thread.

Not one poster asked for banning anything.

Not sure if you mean this thread only and I haven't gone back to look, but TTP wants guns banned. Come to think about it, aren't you wanting "assault weapons" banned?
