Must have been a black out. It's not just their faces; looks like they are completely black. I got no problem with this.

That guy on the right looks like he might have been researching minstrelsy before the game.

Love it! Let the kids have fun, hate when administrators don't allow things to happen if it doesn't hurt anyone or is just ridiculous (cursing and such of players) then it's fine.

At Boyd County a couple years ago when they had a new principal they didn't allow the boys to paint themselves. Ridiculous

This isn't a big deal at all.

The only problem I've ever had with their section was over a decade ago wit some racial themes towards Holmes. I don't believe they do that anymore. But I don't live in the area anymore.

You are correct on your memory. That was not well conceived or executed. I and I'm guessing others let the principal know that it was unacceptable.

I've said this before one here. Crazies are awesome but back when I played Elder student section at the Pit was #1 . That whole atmosphere was from a different world.

It's all just a bit over the top. Try and have just a little more class CovCath.

Nice Clyde, comment was made sarcastically, as an African American I'm not ok with the black face thing. Sure the kid inbounding the ball was not ok with this situation either! Trying to get a point across since you and others evidently think there is no problem with kids on the court screaming at opposing players! What if your team goes over to Taft to play and 20 kids from the stands surround your player on an out of bounds play, still cute and funny?

Let me apologize for my assumption that you were white and making fun of blacks.

Where does race even come into this inane debate?

Blackface?

I think last year it was explained that it was tradition or something...They "justified" it some way.

What was the point you were trying to get across about the Cov Cath student section yelling at visiting inbounders by bringing up a completely separate issue?

And for the record, I would have positively zero problem with Cov Cath inbounders being given the same treatment by any other school's fan section, be it Taft or anyone else.

Kids from the cheering section getting "ON" the floor surrounding an opposing player on an inbound play? I have coached, played and observed HS ball all over the country and I can tell you that this does not happen, anywhere...

If this is ok with you and your local competitors and your officials allow it, fine! But you seem surprised that a team from somewhere else " Louisville Trinity" comes in to your place and takes exception? Elder, Moeller, LaSalle, St X have huge student cheering sections at basketball games, been going to their place for 30 years and have never seen kids "ON" the floor harassing a player on an inbound play, never seen a kid in black face either!

Which brings me to your next point. Most African Americans and probably many Caucasions find black face insensitivive, ignorant and racist. At your school I can only assume it does not carry the same stigmas, which is fine! You have a Private School you can express yourself any way you want. But do you honestly expect not to offend the African American kids on the court? Stop for one second and put yourself in their parents shoes, sitting in the stands watching their kid encircled by a bunch of white kids in painted black face screaming at their son! You say you would put your kid in that situation, I would hope you would never have to!

I think your stating, categorically, that this doesn't happen anywhere in the country on any level of play comes off as pretty heavy-handed, but so be it. And I'm not sure that I've expressed anything about being surprised by someone taking exception...because I certainly am not surprised.

You're bringing in a whole separate discussion - one about race - into this thread, where there had been no such discussion to begin with. Let me clarify for you. As the person who originally posted this thread, this thread was intended to continue the discussion that was started in the Trinity/Cov Cath final score thread regarding Cov Cath's students screaming and yelling from immediately behind the visiting inbounders. You are talking about black face and whether or not it is insensitive, ignorant and racist, when this thread is about yelling and standing on the gym floor rather than in the bleachers.

Also, your question from earlier was "What if your team goes over to Taft to play and 20 kids from the stands surround your player on an out of bounds play, still cute and funny?" and I answered that I would have positively zero problem with that. You made no mention of anything regarding race or anything pertaining to that. Then you came back in your next post and added comments about parents "watching their kid encircled by a bunch of white kids in painted black face screaming at their son"...again you're creating a separate discussion about race in this thread, which was not the topic of the thread.

I think the pollsters have spoken. If you think any other way than you are either a Crazy yourself, a CovCath fan or a stick in the mud.

Like I said, I get a kick out of the crazies. I remember they came to Highlands several yrs ago and I took my son who was in the 5th grade. It was a game where they chanted "His hair, his hair, his hair is on fire" about a Highlands kid everytime he stepped on tge floor. My son also being a redhead got a kick out of it and said I wonder if they will chant that about me when I play. I laughed and he also did. It adds to make a great atmosphere for games and it really shows a sense of brotherhood.

I just don't care for the suffocation of the inbounder by letting kids on the floor. Even if the ref is ok with it I think the administration should keep em in the stands.

To be fair, I asked the first question about blackface when I saw the photo against Clark Co.

Love watching the crazies! They are tactful in what they do so let the kids be kids as long as they are not derogatory in their behavior!
