If this is ok with you and your local competitors and your officials allow it, fine! But you seem surprised that a team from somewhere else " Louisville Trinity" comes in to your place and takes exception? Elder, Moeller, LaSalle, St X have huge student cheering sections at basketball games, been going to their place for 30 years and have never seen kids "ON" the floor harassing a player on an inbound play, never seen a kid in black face either! Which brings me to your next point. Most African Americans and probably many Caucasions find black face insensitivive, ignorant and racist. At your school I can only assume it does not carry the same stigmas, which is fine! You have a Private School you can express yourself any way you want. But do you honestly expect not to offend the African American kids on the court? Stop for one second and put yourself in their parents shoes, sitting in the stands watching their kid encircled by a bunch of white kids in painted black face screaming at their son! Did I miss the picture where a player was "surrounded?"

There are plenty of gyms where members of the student section are "on the floor" for the entire game because of space and there are no issues. Brossart is the 1st gym that comes to mind. I see no problem with the crazies standing on the floor if they are in their student section. Nobody is "on the court" though. Big difference.

To be fair, I asked the first question about blackface when I saw the photo against Clark Co.

 

I think a point CWB is missing is once the photo of the kid painted in black face was posted it made the race comments an addition to the discussion. I didn't even notice it when I first saw the photo but it led to some comments.

Black face and being painted all over for a blackout are two totally different things.

In the video posted from the recent game against Ludlow, students from Cov Cath absolutely leave their seats to gather near the student inbounding. Once the ball in inbounded, you can see the students returning to their seats. I assume that is what is being referred to.

Pretty sure a very similar situation happens every year in Alexandria during the BBHS - CCHS matchup. The CCHS kids are literally on the floor in the deep corner, and even had a staff or stick of some type in past years, however the BBHS kids are nestled snugly behind the bench, not even close to the floor....hmmmm, class or no ?

I agree. However in the picture the boy to the right clearly went the blackface route with the white paint around the mouth and eyes. He appears to be the only one in the picture as the others simply did the body black paint.

For the record, blackface is 100% unacceptable.

Which brings me to your next point. Most African Americans and probably many Caucasions find black face insensitivive, ignorant and racist. At your school I can only assume it does not carry the same stigmas, which is fine! You have a Private School you can express yourself any way you want. But do you honestly expect not to offend the African American kids on the court? I didn't think I would have to state the obvious but.....the only limit to the back is how far back before you hit something. The kids behind the thrower are pressed up against the bleachers with Charlie in front of them. Notice the thrower is not pressed up against the sideline. He has plenty of room.

That would be the end of kids on the floor. I did see a game where the ref asked the kids to refrain from coming onto the floor.

I think it is awesome! As long as the kid throwing in has room and is not hindered by the group, let them go! As a player I would love going there, I have always enjoyed enthusiastic crowds! S far as wearing black face, probably not appropriate. Basketball is a game and games are meant to be fun!

This is a case example of where preventive officiating should be utilized. Only requirement is room to execute throw in. There are many, many gyms that have less depth on the sideline than some of the pictures here.
