Gordon Lightfoot immortalized the event in song.

@Mustang will be all over this thread!

Great song...and very eerie event.

The Weck? Barbara Walters version?

Very good song.

Had to look it up to know about it one day.

Yep.

When the song comes on I always suffer through til the end... it's just so sad.

All that remains is the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Have a friend from college whose dad was dockworker in Cleveland. They have shopping memorials all the time but this one is very dear to folks up there involved in this business. To this day, all those guys who work in and around the water know just how dangerous it is.

Those ships that sailed the Great Lakes were called lakers, and that is how the Minneapolis (now Los Angeles) Lakers got their name. Lake Superior is a deep, cold lake. Some of the wood that went down with ships years ago is now being salvaged and is in great condition because of the cold.

November 10, 1975. Worst accident in the history of Lake Superior. 13,632 ton ship was carrying 26,116 tons of iron ore and a crew of 29 men. It sank in a storm when it was only 17 miles from safe harbor at Whitefish Point, Michigan. The ship, which measured 729 feet long, was found broken in two under 530 feet of water. There were no survivors.

Of the numbers highlighted, which are prime and which are composite?
