As mentioned previously, there are a couple-few jobs that are no longer appearing as open on the state/school district websites, but we are yet to hear confirmation on the new hire. Also, the Phelps job hasn't been definitively confirmed aside from a Twitter report from @EKBSports back on January 7th, but we'll go ahead and add it in until we're informed otherwise.

Greg is a good coach and a very good guy, hopefully if they do hire him, the Bell Co. fans will support him, being an ex-Redhound though, I'm just not sure if they would.

 

He voluntarily left the head coaching ranks a few years ago due to family circumstances, so with his boys pretty much raised now, I guess he's ready to get back in. He applied for the Corbin opening a couple of years ago as well.

Is Bell really in a situation right now to turn someone down? I'm not saying that's it's too late for them in the hiring process, but from everything I can gather it seems as if Bell hasn't exactly had a wealth of applicants and have had several individuals turn them down.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Mike Jones from Estill go after it. He has or did have family from the Bell County area.

His brother used to live in Bell County but he doesn't anymore. I think he moved to Richmond.

Ballard interviewed over a week ago for their head coaching job, looks like candidates were not impressive. They still have not announced anyone. They have reached out to Bob Redmond which would be a home run if it solidifies!

I just can't get over how these hirings take place and the people that get the jobs. It's amazing to me the process of how to go about interviews and selecting a head football coach. No offense to some of these guys that have gotten jobs but surely to goodness better candidates are out there. Why would a school hire the MS head football coach? Why would a school not go after head coaching experience? I understand so many places want to stay status quo and not spend money but why even have a program? I'm not saying in every case that lesser qualified people can't handle the job but overall I'm sure it's been a disaster if you look at the hires over the years. Anyway just curious what everyone's thoughts are on this subject? It just seems like to me more and more administrations care less and less about the kids and more about the numbers it's sad.

A lot of times in Jefferson Co. they feel the middle school coach can bring in kids X,Y and Z and make the program better right away. It has become a lot more about who you can recruit rather then other aspects.

I have said this several times. The days of principals and supers being old coaches is over, is that good or bad. Well I do know that discipline problems in our public schools is at an all time high, you have supers and principals that have never run anything but a class room and know nothing about real discipline, building team unity or bringing people together for a common good. Just look at how big colleges are hiring business people to run the athletic programs and then when they need to hire a coach those same ADs have to go hire a search committee to find one. Kind of like paying a body guard so he can call the police if you need help! Today the only thing that most Principals and supers care about is test scores!!! So the question is why have sports if you aren't going to try and be the best?

No disrespect to the guys that were interviewed, but am I the only one that felt the listed candidates for Ballard weren't impressive. I thought the job was Farmer's by the way they slated the rest of the field for interviews.

 

The surprise for me is that they weren't impressed with Farmer either.
