I heard today Ballard offered Redmond and he declined. He is possibly taking a position working for Matt Bevin. Now what for Ballard?

Bullitt East is a school that was in the finals not that long ago. Could have won it. To think that interest is mostly from assistant coaches is surprising. What has happened to this program?

Unfortunately, I think a lot of it just has to do with it becoming a less and less desirable position/profession in general. Very few of these jobs the last couple years (or more) have been filled by guys who are current head coaches playing leap frog.

 

Very few programs are flawless, and even those that are closest to being that still have their issues. Packing up their families to move for job(s) that most times have no financial increase (and, sometimes less), plus its own set of issues (some the same, some different); is becoming less and less ideal IMO.

 

As I heard a 40+ year veteran (who is still coaching as an assistant, with 20+ of those being a head) say, "Every place has its poisons."

The AD and the principal are the ones who will have to answer for anything that night go wrong. Not saying that anything would go wrong with McPeek, but when your option is to select a coach who does have documented recruiting violations in their past, or to select a coach who doesn't...maybe the resume makes more of the decision than the 'many' would prefer it did.

Is that a fact or an opinion? I've also heard he is a player for the Ballard job as well.

Not saying that anything would go wrong with McPeek, but when your option is to select a coach who does have documented recruiting violations in their past, or to select a coach who doesn't...maybe the resume makes more of the decision than the 'many' would prefer it did.

 

To be fair the violation was a grading ineligibility issue of a transfer student had nothing to do with recruiting. You can read the report its public knowledge and in the KHSAA and OEA report on the superintendent no evidence of recruiting was found. So honestly your statement isn't truthful

BE is an abject disaster. The program has lacked any discipline the past 2 years I know for sure. When players can miss practice and all they have to do to play that week is sweep the locker room sends the wrong message. I know some misses are inevitable but too many times this past season players were planning to miss knowing they had minimal to do to be able to play Friday night. Mix that with the previous coach not wanting to adapt his coaching style to the players talents and make the program something you want to play for caused many players to quit. The team has a ton of raw talent but the lack of quality coaching has all but destroyed the program. Whomever takes it over will have their hands ful trying to right the ship IMO...

Assuming the school administration is willing to back the coaching staff, this doesn't sound like the worst of scenarios. If the raw talent is there, a new coaching staff is able to demand discipline and get things moving in the right direction. There may be some attrition when the coaching staff takes a hard line on discipline, but the program can still get moving the right way without too much difficulty.

That is spot on. No discipline, no desire to win by coaching staff. Just a good ol boy network happy to have status of being coaches.

True. There is enough talent to get back to winning ways. If the right hire is made there could be a championship caliber team in the next 2-4 years. Lot of talent in youth leagues coming up as well.
