Johnson Central 8 Ashland 7

So JC made a big call to go for 2?

Well it was still early in 3rd quarter, and I'm sure Matney knew he had his big kicker in his back pocket if they missed the two point conversion. It was definitely a gutsy call, but I thought it was a great call.

Yes, while having the best kicker in the state at hand. Just another smack in the face by Mattney to the Ashland coaching staff. Hopefully they learn from it.

Where does this one rank among the all time great games at Putnam? Being that it was a low scoring game that went down to the wire, it made me think of the classic defensive battle between Ashland and CovCath in 1988, won by the Colonels 6-0.

For anyone who may have been present on that night in '88, is there any comparison to be made between that one and tonight's game?

He made a big call to punt on their last possession too. Surprised he didn't go for a 70-yard FG.

That Cov Cath game in 88 in OT is still the best game I've ever seen at Putnam Stadium.

What did you think of Putnam Stadium @Wireman?

Great atmosphere. I love old stadiums. Parking was sketchy but stadium is great

Haha yeah. To be honest I'm surprised there were no field goals kicked in this game.

Without seeing this game it sounds like it wasn't a great game. Close game but only 1 TD for each team and one has a D1 back.

Am I wrong?

I was wondering near end what kind of kicker Ashland has

Great game. Ashland played well enough to win but couldn't get over the coaching hump.

Johnson Central lost the turnover battle, the yardage battle, the penalties battle and still won.

The difference in this game is the in game decision making of the coaches IMO. Matney makes 2 huge calls going for 2 and faking a punt. Love is one of the worst decision makers in game I have seen at a high level program. His strategies are solid but he can not adjust on the fly. Tonight it looked like Matney was playing chess and Love checkers. The play calling to end the game came from the Dawson playbook.

On the 2 point conversion how many times is Ashland going to fall for tackle eligible? Have they ever defended it against JC?

Ashland deserved to win this game but JC has to feel confident about a rematch knowing they laid an egg and still won.

Ashland's team speed on defense is out of this world. They closed space like their hair was on fire. Really impressed with the defense.

Baker should be Mr. Football. Probably won't win as he and Daniels will split the EKY vote but Baker is the best high school player in the state IMO.

Hope we get to see a rematch of these two as tonight was special.

It depends what you look for in a game. Both defenses played great.. Ashland scored on a 80 yard run on the 1st play of the 2nd half on a great run, and Johnson Central answered quickly setting up their TD on a big pass play. There were a lot of hard hits out there from both teams. I thought it was a great game to watch my two evenly matched teams.

Hate that the Tomcats dropped a game. This one sounded like a great game.

When u have to pitch the ball to a running back for him to throw it down field because your quarterback can't, that's when u know u have a problem!!!

How did Johnson Central lay an egg? Ashland got zero points on two red zone possessions.
