I don't know about that. I don't know why HHS stopped playing NKY teams after their loss to Ryle in 2010. I don't k ow why other teams didn't play HHS either. The point is no one knows but always hearing year after year that everyone ducked HHS with no proof of that at all got old. No one has ever supplied an ounce of proof that "everyone"

If it's coaches jobs to know what all other teams in the area have coming back, then not only why would HHS schedule St X and Scott Co., but also why schedule Ryle, SK, Cooper etc knowing they would lose those games? That's if they knew the talent on all the teams as has been stated it is their responsibility to do so.

 

Personally, I don't think Highlands thought they would lose to Cooper and Ryle, and probably not to Simon Kenton either. I am guessing they thought even with a lower level of talent than in years past they would win those games and that's why they scheduled them. Very ironic if I am guessing right.

No, it's not a coaches job to keep up with who is sitting in the bench of a team that isn't even in their district or their class.

I would garuntee you the answer is no.

 

Nor would they care what the names are. First, I said of "potential opponents" way back in an earlier post. But what does knowing the names of the players have to do whether they know if they will be up or down. I have no clue what the name of the kids are on SK's softball team. But I know they are very young right now, very average, but are going to be very good in about 2-3 years. But again. I don't know the name of one of their players. Just one example. Want me to go thru all of NKy for you??

As I read comments on here, I see where it seems that many Highlands fans felt they would probably be short on talent this year. RCC stated that coaches know what talent other teams have coming up. Obviously, coaches should know the talent on their own team as well. I agree wholeheartedly with those thoughts.

 

But that brings me to my question. When the Highlands coaches made out their schedule for the next two years, do you think they were scheduling the Northern Kentucky teams in an attempt to make the schedule weaker than in years past to match the Highlands talent? But if that is true, why schedule Scott County and St Xavier? Or, did the Highlands coaching staff not recognize their own talent issues?

 

Sorry, but it's not an either/or. HHS had a new coach that wasn't shunned by the other NKY coaches. That coach wanted to avoid long, costly trips to the nether regions of the state. (The "luxury charter" busses broke down frequently making for a really enjoyable trip.) So, he could -- and did -- schedule more local games.

 

The coaches believe every year that HHS can compete with anyone that is willing to play them. Dale did too. Dale just didn't have other coaches clicking "reply" on his emails to the coaches' listserv when he was looking to fill out the schedule.

 

I doubt that the HHS coaches would schedule Dayton if they called for a game. But if you think HHS would have ever preferred to pay $5,000 for a 4 hour bus ride to western Ky than play Ryle, SK, Cooper, or a few other NKY teams, you're lying to yourself and all the rest of us.

JOATs post makes a whole lot more sense than yours and others who claim it's everyone else's job to know what HHS had coming back and chose this year to pounce on the wounded beast.

Sounds like He wasn't very smart then. He went out a loser and his replacement won the state title the very next year. Apparently Dale didn't have a very good grasp on the talent that was coming up if that is why he stepped down.

What is nice is NKY 6A is strong. HHS is certainly not playing at the level we expected but the ship isn't sunk. What is nice 6a in NKY is relevant even at our expense. I am glad that the programs are having success.

I can only give my opinion. I will preface it with I am not close to the team in anyway shape or form.

 

The coaches knew there would be some dip in talent depth. Playing the 6A teams that are "UP" compared to previous years would provide the challenge needed to help prepare this team for the district and playoffs. My thoughts and my thoughts only, since NKY 6A has generally been viewed as WEAK, they scheduled Scott Cty and St X to really test the team in case the traditionally WEAK NKY 6A teams didn't provide the test the team needed.

 

As we found out, the NKY teams were more than a challenge for this year's team.

 

The district play starts next week. We'll see what the coaching staff and team have to offer against the district foes.

If it is a coaches job to know how good other teams are going to be each year (which I claim it isn't their job) then the HHS coaches who knew better than anyone else what HHS would be like this year due to the talent on their own team, and knowing how good the other teams were going to be would seem to say the HHS coaches then have a very bad ability to judge talent.

 

I will continue to believe the only other teams a coach is concerned with in the area are teams in their district first and then teams in their class.

 

Also, HHS again just came off a state title and as HHS in the last over the past 8'yeats has always had heavy turnover of starters each year as it's always been a senior heavy team. You know, the next man up philosophy.

That's funny. The national name is a myth. Playing Cincy schools had nothing to do with a national name. I guess all these other schools that are doing it now are trying the same then? And the Fla schools were last minute fills ins because they didn't have teams to play and a team backed out at the last minute! That's been explained. So that's leaves traveling to PT, JH, warren central, Scott county, and some others as "trying to make a national name??? Do you really believe that??? Comical!
